    Bad charging port?

So my backlight went bad on me a few weeks ago. Got a new LCD and touch screen and put it on. I tested everything out before putting the housing back on and all was fine but the tape I got (scotch brand specifically sold for attaching touch screens) did not want to stick very well so I stacked some books on the screen and plugged in the tablet thinking I would take it to school yesterday... Well I woke up to find that now the tablet wouldn't do anything! Not only was there no screen, but no power at all. I took the casing off and rechecked all the connections and everything seemed fine. Reassembled and stuck it in my keyboard dock (I was trying everything at this point) and the battery charging screen came up for about a second and disappeared. Left it docked with the dock plugged in a while and tried again. It worked!!! But even after about an hour of charging the tablet read only 1%. Left it charging overnight and its charged up to 60% in about 12 hours...Took it off the dock and tried plugging the cord straight into the tablet again and nothing happens. Tried plugging into my computer and nothing happens on either end. Also, the tablet recognizes when I dock it to the keyboard, but none of the keyboard functions work. No typing or mouse. I'm thinking I must have damaged the port where the cable plugs in but I am pretty clueless about this stuff. I found a used replacement port on eBay for 50 bucks...seems pretty steep. Found one on Asusparts dot uk for 14 euros but they don't have the United States available as a shipping address and with tax and shipping anywhere but the US it comes out to 33 euros which is around 45 bucks. I just wanted to get an outside opinion before I drop more money on this thing. Maybe there is something simple I missed or a way to test the port, maybe with a multi-meter or something...and ideas guys?

Just guessing but you may have shorted something when you put the weight on it.

Check the wiring on the port.
