Camera app causes the pad to crash

I updated to 3.1 yesterday and now everytime I open the camera app everything freezes and I'm forced to hold the power button to reset. I haven't seen anything on the internet about this and I'm wondering if anyone can offer some help.

I have the same problem with an Eee Pad I bought 3 weeks ago. After a week or so I think I got an update - my build number is HMJ37.WW_epad-8.4.4.11-20110711. After this my front camera started to go green and blocky on me. Switching cameras from front to back a couple times fixed this the 2 or 3 times I needed it. Now 4 out of 5 times starting the camera app results in the following:

    1. Viewport area goes black
    2. A couple seconds or so later I get a dialog window:
    /!\ Sorry!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    The application Camera (process com.android.camera)
has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

    [Force close]

Once this appears, the tablet freezes. I have to force a restart by holding the power button to recover.

I have been reading about others with this problem. I am about to return my device and would like to know if this is a software-specific problem or an issue with build or components in some Eee Pads.

That's what I'm getting too. I called Asus and they're telling me to mail it in for repairs.

Me too. Shop and Asus recommended RMA. Go to your regional Asus website /RMA to fill in a form to schedule a pick-up. In NL the RMA takes about one week according to guys at Paradigit.

Got mine back today. The Asus Support guys in CZ were really helpful - even changed my pickup address with DHL so I didn't have to work from home. I got it back so fast (<1 week) I thought there had been some mistake. I even waited a bit after getting home to check it out, expecting a nasty surprise. Instead I got a pleasant one - a perfectly intact, clean and functional Eee Pad with a front camera that works no matter how aggressively I switch cameras. Everything else seems to work, though I haven't looked too hard for other problems yet.

I've been an Asus customer for about 7 years, and this is my first RMA. Big thanks to Asus Support for delivering excellent service!

Spoke too soon - the uSD card reader no longer reads cards (including ones that worked before sending it in). Have filled in the form for another RMA and crossing my fingers. Real bummer since my dock arrives tomorrow.

Just to add to the list my pad arrived worked updated to 3.1 and broke front camera in app. Thought 3.2 would fix it BUT NO. Full factory reset did not help either. Asus accepted it as a fault and was happy to repair it but suggested I sent back to supplier as it would probably be replaced rather than repaired. Which I did it is now with Dabs.com.

Welcome to the forum notorp. Hope you are dealing with your TF withdrawal well. I had mine sent out to RMA to newegg for about a week and a half. It is worth the wait to get one back that works.

Also, thanks for the update on this issue.

RMA #1: Out with broken front camera, in with broken SD-card slot
RMA #2: Out with broken SD-card slot, in with malfunctioning display (flickering, interference, reduced color palette)
RMA #3: Out with malfunctioning display, fingers crossed

I'm pretty patient, but this is testing me.

3rd RMA has left CZ, so I should get it at work during stand-ups. Guess I will take my lonely keyboard dock to the office in hopes I won't be reboxing it for another trip.
