Yes that's what designers are paid the big bucks for!

The reality is that although it may not seem like much of a drop and it was in a case and it fell onto a fairly soft surface, the the display, touch layer and outer glass components are glued together into a comparatively heavy unit and it doesn't take much of a jolt at the right (or wrong, depending on your point of view) angle to loosen a cable or even cause permanent damage inside the assembly.

The advice I have received, from a friend who repairs Nortel PABXs and their associated phones and LCD displays, is that you should never casually toss anything that has an LCD display included in it onto any surface from any height - most of the time nothing happens, but every now and then you're just going to be unlucky and damage the display.
Fortunately my Samsung phone is a little more robust....not that I throw it on anything, but it has done the occasional suicide jump out of my pocket!

    Hi!
My TF101 had a contact with salt water on the boat and now the screen doesn't display anything and touch does not work, however backlight DOES work.
In fact it looks like Transformer completely works - I can see him on my router DNS list, I can hear GMAIL notifications and the picture is ok over HDMI.

I have checked connector described in the beginning of this thread, pulled it out and in again and nothing changed. Still no display, no touch and backlight working.

And now the question is - is there a way to turn on Bluetooth on Transformer and pair it with BT keyboard to use it as "desktop computer" with external monitor ? I do not have an USB extension kit to connect USB keyboard.

Good idea - I think your best bet might be to "borrow" (or even buy cheaply & then sell again) a docking keyboard from someone / somewhere for the 30 seconds it would take you to turn Bluetooth on & get it to then pair with your BT keyboard. You must be able to find one in a shop or on eBay or something similar, I would think.

Or an appeal here listing your city location - I'm sure someone would help you out.

    Hi,

I have the same problem on my TF101. The backlight seems dead. I connected the pad on my TV with an HDMI cable and I can see the display. All is functional :sound, GPS (must be test), WIFI, touch screen and display.
I can see the icons when the pad isn't connected on my TV but without the backlight it's very difficult.
I envisage to change the LCD screen. I already disassembled my pad and checked if it's not due to the LCD cable which seems correctly connected. I have another TF101 on which I took the cable but without any succes.
Do you think that I can change the LCD (and the touch screen I think) or the problem could be due to another thing ?

Thank you in advance for your answers and for your help.

    HI guys, same problem here.
All of the sudden the tablet video stayed black. HDMI is fine, tryed several reboots and nothing. Opened it up and the gold connector is in place, I removed it and put it back in... Still no video. Any suggest/ reccomendation here.
    Anyone fix it?

    Hi Max,
Since my post in bought a TF101 sold for spares. I took his LCD screen after removed the touch screen on each pads and now my pad is functional.
I think that you must replace your LCD screen. It's possible because I do that.....
