    [SOLVED] problem with pop-up ad

A few days ago an annoying pop-up ad started appearing on mg TF101. I had not installed any new apps for some time so I'm guessing I picke it up:surfing the net.. for security, I use Lookout .. coldbooting Linux does not help.. any suggestions?

Think back to the last app you installed even if it was a while ago. If the pop-up is appearing lower right it's an ad that came with an app. Look for Airpush Detector or the Lookout ad detector on the Google Store.

It just pops up in the middle of the screen, not in the lower right notification area.. Airpush Detector came up negative as did Lookout Ad Detector..so could it NOT be app-related? A factory reset should fix it but that's the last resort.

Any chance you can take a screenshot and post it here?? I'm sure you've read the ad to see if that's a clue to where it came from...

Hmmn... settings>apps>running press on apps, look for PushService -- this may indicate the app that's pushing an ad to your tablet.

if it pops up in the middle of screen it has to use the similar programing as floating apps. It can then place it self on top of everything

    1. Don't panic
    2. Ensure Lookout is fully up to date & then in the security settings ensure file system monitoring is ticked
    3. Do a full Lookout scan
If it doesn't report an issue, then you are not "infected"

    4. Then, run the Asus Task Manager widget to see what is running. You should be able to identify which app is the most likely.
    5. Check the permissions for the apps you suspect. If this happens after a cold boot, it will be one that "loads on startup"

Find it, bin it, complain to the developer & on the Play Store. Its the only way they will learn. Oh, & name it & shame it here, too.

I think I've found the cause..,I recently switched broadband providers and for, whatever reason, the new provider is prompting me to check out their website. My TF101 only displays part of the screen and won't even scroll properly which made things more, difficult.,Anyway, I called the provider to,see if there is a way to,disable their system, from sending me prompts .. have to call back,as,their system is undergoing enhancement.. anyway, thanks everyone..

Glad to learn it's nothing more serious.

I suspect everyone has seen popup adds within various apps at times - and yes - they can be annoying when seen often. Then again...that's a developer's way of steering you away from an app free version toward a paid version. I suppose their work has to be funded somehow.
