YIKES! mediaserver is eating my battery!!!

I never had a battery drain until i did a factory reset last week. Now, all of a sudden, it's draining like crazy. I checked the battery tab in settings, and it looks like "mediaserver" is using at least half the power...but i don't even know what that is. I don't stream movies or music or anything...not linked up to a home computer or anything like that.

Before i did the factory reset, i never saw the words "mediaserver" on my battery page. Clueless here. Do any of you have any clue what's going on?

    Thanks for shaing your wisdom.

    Jenna

See if this helps. Not for TF but it's an Android thing.

    Thanks for the link.

Actually, it only complicates stuff since i don't use youtube, and i don't listen to online radio. i don't watch movies or tv online. and i've never seen that mediaserver message before...and have had my tf 101 since last fall.

gonna try another factory reset and see if that makes it go away i guess....

Try checking in the settings under accounts and sync and see what your google account is syncing. It may be trying to sync music or pictures. Don't know if that could cause this or not.

Linderlee, why don't you do some investigation before you do the factory reset.
When you see Mediaserver running in the battery app, check in Settings> Apps> Running.
Look for anything that seems to be connecting to the internet:
    Widgets
    Email
    Social Apps
Do you have the automatic backup to Google checked
    DropBox syncing photos
    Picassa syncing photos
Do you use Google Play for your music
    Amazon for your music

All these will use up battery life.
Also, is your battery running out quicker, or are you just seeing Mediaserver in the list of battery usage?
The percentages of use are based on total use,
so if everything has used 10% of your battery, the Screen might say 70%, mediaserver might say 30%.
That is 30% of the 10% of use not 30% of your total battery

    Hi kgragert,

The reason i even looked at battery usage was that my tf battery has been draining like CRAZY since i did the factory reset....something it never did before. I haven't loaded many things yet...i use gmail and have that and my calendar syncing. i don't use cloud storage, don't use a photo service like picassa, dont have any music stuff going yet. since the factory reset, i've loaded a few office apps and a couple of games i've used for months with no problems. no extra browsers or keyboards or cloud stuff or custom desktop background. downloaded wakelock this afternoon....but i don't think it's making any difference.

I've had the tablet and dock fully charged at night, and it will be totally drained by morning.

i've made sure gps, syncing, and wifi are turned off before turning off the screen (haven't tried totally shutting down the tf yet...but will do that tonite and see what happens)

in the past, when i've checked battery, screen and wifi were my top two battery users. Now, this mediaserver thing is at the top of the list at 35% or so. totally crazy.

thanks for letting me pick your brain....jenna

Settings>battery long press on mediaserver, see if you can clear data / stop it.

    Hi Swipe...

Well, i tried but i didn't get the options to clear data and stop like you usually do with regular apps. BUT, it did have this notification about how much time it ran, and under it, it said KEEP AWAKE 17h 18m

what's that "keep awake" stuff??? any idea?

Not sure, it's not currently active on my TF101. Check settings>apps>running. See if it shows up there, try clearing data, stopping... also press on show cached processes (top right) and see if it's there. If you don't find it or still have problems I suggest a cold boot. Power off your tablet, then press volume down and power button at the same time. You will see some white text, then the device will display a flashing green android, let go of the buttons and it will do a cold boot of the operating system. This might fix things for you.

Omg! I never saw that cache button on the upper right before...but it worked! Put tf to sleep last night at 100% and this morning its 98%! And when i checked the battery, mediaserver was gone.

Thank you all for your help. This site is outstanding. Jenna
