Maps and Google Places -Network Failure - requires a working data connection

New Transformer - successfully have Internet connection, can open and view YouTube, websites, send and receive email from multiple accounts but I cannot access Google Maps or Google Places.
Every time I try to open the applications I receive an error message stating. "This application requires a working data connection"....????

I have tried rebooting and clearing the cache

    I can verify certain settings:
    GPS version - V1.3.1
My Location settings - checked marked (Use wireless networks, use GPS satellites, and use location for search)
    Running Services - includes Maps (started by application) @ com.google.android.apps.maps:NetworkLocationServic e 6.7MB

Anyone else running into problems or know a solution????

    Thanks

The only thing I can think of is the strength of your connection. Sometimes, if the connection is weak/moderate, some things work for me, others (like maps) don't, until I move a bit closer to the Wi-modem.

You need to be connected to a wireless network to use google maps. If you want an offline gps use co pilot live or wait until later this summer when google releases offline maps.

With a Google Docs account? Wouldn't be surprised if that was necessary.
