    Newbie with Transformer T101

Hello there, my name is Julian, I'm 27 and I own a transformer T101.

I purchased the 101 in December because I was going to live abroad for a couple of months and needed a tablet to stay in touch and chose the t101.

Anyway, now I'm back and I'd like to explore more of my t101's power and if possible and worth it do the following

    1 Root the Tablet
    2 Upgrade to ICS
    3 Dual boot to Ubuntu
    4 Make it 3G compatible

If anyone can share his experience with any of these updates or can direct me to the right threads that would be awesome.

    Thanks

Welcome to the forum Julian. I went ahead and moved your thread to the help section as you should get more action here than in the new member section.

Here is the link you want to look at as far as rooting your device goes: Asus Transformer Development

Here is where you can read about manually upgrading to ICS: ASUS Shares Method to Update Your Eee Pad Transformer to ICS Manually

I have no clue on Dual boot capabilities and I don't think we can do 3G since there is no sim card slot but you can tether from your phone's service

Hi Mickey, thanks a lot for your help. I just started the process updating to ics, hopefully all goes well.

About the dual boot & 3g, I read somewhere on xda developers forum this was possible somehow but the tutorial wasn't well explained and I wasn't successful in my attempts. I'm hopeful I can find some help here

Good luck sir! I am one who sticks to the boring basics as I've never rooted. I've jailbroken many an Apple product though. You pretty much had to if you wanted to do anything with them!

    Julian,

I would stay away from non supported ROMs, stick with the ASUS supplied updates. As for 3G here is the ticket, from market place install:

    Foxfi on your phone

    PDANet Tablet on the TF101.

Note: if Wifi won't work on your phone, use the Bluetooth option, it works great for me.....

    Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for your help, I downloaded foxfi & pdanet & it works perfectly. However I read here [HowTo] use 3G Dongle on TF101 *UPDATED 03/08/2012* - xda-developers that it is also possible to do it with a 3G Usb Modem for when you are abroad and you don't have 3g connectivity on your cell phone.

Are there any permanent risks associated with non supported ROMs? If it doesn't work or it's stuck somewhere, can I just rollback?
