    Accessing files on Windows machine

    Hi guys,
I have no problem playing the films/music/photos using the MyNet application over Wifi accessing a Win7 pc.
However, I can not access the same files using any file manager (Astro, FileExpert etc).
I assume it is a Win7 access right issue, but I can access the files from any other Win PC on my network.
Has any of you guys had the issue and did you find a remedy for it?
    I have a TF101 and Win7 Professional at home.

    Thanks a lot
    Mats

    Welcome to the forum

That's potentially a tough question as there may be variables that you didn't mention. Can the other PCs see and access the Win7 system?

If they can you should be able to as well. If not, it is probably a sharing or security issue but more likely sharing. The TF should be able to see, under the right conditions, even administrative shares if the system is set up to share the drive or folders.

ES File Explorer > Select LAN tab > Press Scan > Click on Shared PC > Browse Shares

You need shared folders set up on the PC as you would for any normal network share

    Hi guys,
    Thanks for your replies.
I have 2 win7 and one xp and they can all see the shared drives with the films/photos/music. The XP and one Win7 is wired, the 2nd win7 is wireless(works from here as well so no wifi issue). My playstation(wired) can also see/play the files.
The TF101 can with ASTRO / file explorer / file expert see the Win7 pc and the folders but I get access denied when I try to open them. With MyNet everything works flawlessly, except of course I can not copy files to/from the TF101.

    Any other ideas??

I'll try with my phone as well tonight using the same applications as mentioned above.

    Cheers
    Mats

Can those other 2 systems access the files, you only mentioned being able to see them, there is a difference and that may be the key. It sounds like a permissions problem, or possibly the credentials you used to access the system from your TF. Right click on that folder on the Win7 system, - sharing, make certain read and write is selected for the default or everyone user.

    Hi again,
Thanks for taking the time to answer. I just checked the permissions on the windows server and there is one group displayed 'everyone' and all permissions are ticked i.e. Read / Change / Full Control. As mentioned before the XP machine can access the files i.e. download them locally. Also the 'mynet' application works, meaning I can play the files on the TF101, but in any file manager application I get access denied when trying to access the files.

So I assume the server is the system you are trying to access. Sounds like there is something corrupted on that system. I have seen systems before that had corruptions where any system that previously had access still did but no new systems could be added. Restarting the Windows system with a chkdsk for file issues may be a solution. If not, remove the share on that system, wait for the permissions to change on the files, restart the PC and put the share back, restart again and try.

Did you make sure that you went into both the Security and the Sharing settings and that "Everyone" has permission? Adding it in one place does not add it to both.

I have my files set up so only certain users can see them. Also, if your other PC's have the same logon credentails it may be using those credentials to vailidate if the "Everyone" is not in both places.
