    Transformer not charging :( Non-rooted

    Hey guys,
I’ll be the 1st to say that I did not search the forums yet for a solution as I am creating this post from work and do not have that much time :/. I have a Transformer (TF101) that will not charge. I bought it new so its under warranty but I really don’t want to have to bring it back to best buy unless I have to. Lol. I believe it might be a software/firmware issue. Let me explain.

When I connect the tablet to the stock charge, the screen lights up as it detects a connection but never shows the “charging” symbol. Just to rule out the symbol not showing, I left it connected all night and the power went from 85% to 83%. I connect the cable to my computer to verify that the cable is working and it connects with no problems. I get the notification stating “sync” on the tablet. I have tried various wall outlets and AC-USB chargers. I work for an IT company so I have all these things readily available. I tried using a Samsung (known good) Galaxy 10.1 ac-usb charger but get the same results. The screen lights up but never goes to charging. Any and all help will be much appreciated!

    Information about my tablet
    Model Number: Transformer TF101
    Android Version: 3.2.1
GPS Version (not that its needed): v5.5.8
    WiFi Version: v5.2.65
    Bluetooth Version: v6.24
    Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3-00001-g9a21fc1 android@Mercury #1
    Build Number: HTK75.us_epad-8.6.5.21-20111216

Plug the TF in Go to Settings>About>Status. Does it indicate that it is charging?

    Welcome to the forum.

The only charger that has a chance of showing charging is the TF wall wart. This puts out 15 VDC instead of 5 VDC when the TF is connected.

Also, be sure you are not using a USB extension cable when testing. Only a good USB 3.0 cable will work to extend it.

In my signature is a guide next to the "Charging & Boot Issues" text.

Rip through that and see if any of that helps.

I did not check the status section to see if it blunty stated charging, but since the power level went down from 85% to 83% over night, while thes stock charger and cable were connected to the wall, I would assume it wasn't charging.

I started my troubleshooting process using only the Stock USB cable and Stock Asus Charger. I've used multiple wall outlets and surger protectors. Once those didn't work, I started using different USB adaptors but the same USB cable as its the only one I had available at the time. After checking the Samsung on, it seems the output is a 5v as you stated. So then the issue could be my "wall wart" as you put it. I'll have to see if I can find another AC usb charge that outputs 15v around here to test. Thanks for the information. I assumed to much thinking the Samsung charge would put out the same as the Asus.

The Asus charger has a safety switch built in. Put it in a zip bag and toss it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes. If its the switch it should reset.

Good to know, now that you mention it, I did have some power flickering due to weather last night. It was plugged into a surge protector but i'll give that a shot when I get home. Keep everyone updated once I get home.

Thanks Jeffrey, That did the trick. I would assume the switched was triggered durring the power flickering. I disconnected it from the outlet for 20 mins and it reset. (figured i'd try that before putting it in the freezer) XD
