Extremely Yellow / Warm Screen with low Contrast and other impressions

    Hello all,

I'm new so I hope it is appropriate to post this thread.

I purchased an Eee Pad Transformer a few days ago from Best Buy when they were running their promotion. The official product ID is TF101-X1, and the batch number begins with B90.

I have been trying to use this tablet and to my untrained eyes it looks extremely warm and yellow. Having used and experienced a fair number of LCD screens in the past and present, I can say this is more than usual. I have recently purchased a laptop with what is considered yellow/warm Screen by other users of the same type and the Transformer is more yellow/warm by a large degree.

Also I have a difficult time getting used to the rendering of text by the browser or by the Honeycomb OS in general. It looks "undark" or not dark enough. What should be black text seems gray and a bit fuzzy. By comparison, white text on a dark background is easier to read. I almost feel this is due to a lack of contrast. Especially on a low brightness setting, this becomes an issue. I do not like to look at a bright screen. On my laptops I usually dial down the brightness but viewing simple text has never been so difficult as it is on the Eee Pad.

I don't think I'm holding the screen too closely to my face. Subjectively the screen is quite awful to me.

I will be going to best buy to examine the floor model, as well as the iPad2 screen and the Samsung Galaxy Tab screens as those screens are compared to the Transformer most often, to see if my Asus Transformer simply uses a bum panel.

I would like to hear your thoughts, however.

Does't sound good to me. I've just tried to replicate the kind of display by adjusting settings, but couldn't achieve anything like you're description. I would get in contact with the seller ASAP; I think you may have a dud...

My Transformer is vivid where it sounds like yours isn't The suggestion of comparing it to another TF is a good start, it may be defective.

I can try to compare it to an iPad sometime soon.

My eyes hate the screen so much. It gives me a headache to stare at it.

Sure, you could, but keep in mind that the TF has a different screen format, higher resolution, more pixels on the screen etc. so the only thing you could compare would be to see if you detect the yellow you mentioned. Apples to apples or in this case TF to TF would be better. Surely they have a TF on the sales floor to compare.

Hey guys, i wasn't able to go to best buy to compare tablets.

Do you guys normally keep your screens on a high brightness setting?

Would you guys describe your screens as yellowish or bluish?

I have a little light leakage on the bottom near the virtual buttons. Is this normal?

I personally keep my TF's brightness up all the way. The screen colors are so vivid and beautiful. Having the screen brightness up chews up the battery a little quicker, but I enjoy how nice it looks. If your screen is not pleasing to the eye I would have to agree with the others. It sounds like something is amiss with your screen. Also, a little light bleed on the black screen is normal, but it shouldn't interfere once you are onto the color screens. I would exchange it for another. The beautiful screen on the Transformer is one of its selling points.

My screen is exhibiting slightly better behavior. I wonder if it needs to be "baked" in. Maybe it was a bit stale in the time it was in its box. Is this possible?

I'm not sure about that. I've had my TF for 6 months and as soon as I turned it on I was amazed at how nice the screen was compared to the laptops I've owned. I would still check a floor model. Go into settings and turn the brightness all the way up on it and compare yours to it. You want to make sure all is well with yours before your exchange period is up.
