    Android Market???

I decided to search the Android Market for a web browser as a result of discussions in another thread. Using "browsers" as a search word resulted in 2,481 hits. Using "web browsers" resulted in 937 hits. Using "android web browsers" resulted in 51 hits. The 51 hits didn't include Dolphin or FireFox. The only real browser that showed up was Opera.

What a mess! And no way to do an advanced search to try to get more relevant results.

Is there any better search engine for Android apps?

    Thanks, Jim

If you knew the name, search for it. "Dolphin" found 332 results, but the first row were the browser and add ons for it. "Firefox" found 68 results, but the first two were the browser, and the beta version of the next update for it.

I have had a lot more luck just searching the market through the browser. The app is useless. I couldn't even find Go Launcher EX, but it did come up with hundreds of different themes and addons instead. They really should allow sorting and advanced searching.

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, IF you know the name, it will show up in the first few hits. BUT, I am thinking about searches for apps where all I know is what the app does. I know I want a web browser, but I don't know any names, I know I want a wifi scanner, but I don't know any names, etc.

    Thanks, Jim

Jim I suggust downloading the Amazon Appstore app. It does a much better job of searching for apps.
    Current Devices:
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition - Dell Venue 11 Pro Bay Trail (On Order) - LG Optimus G Pro

App makers get to put any search terms they want with their apps, and that is what confuses the market search. It helps to put words in quotes, and you can use some simply logic functions like browser -"add on". I've been using the market for a year or so now, and it gets easier to find stuff once you have a little experience picking search terms and strategies. Yes it needs improvement. I have the same challenges with the ipad app store and the amazon app store.

Sadly, I've run into several apps that were on the regular Android market and not on the Amazon Appstore.

For this particular problem, androlib/appbrain or searching via market.android.com are all options, another is to actually do a Google search (Google made it so that the mobile version will search for apps on the market as well).

Actually the market is working correctly. Dolphin is not actually a browser, it's just a skin on the standard browser. Firefox tries to be a browser, but just ends up a bloated and buggy embarrassment to the Firefox name.

Out of all the results, the only real browser was Opera.....
