[Rumor] Ice Cream Sandwich May Be Released on November 17th

Here's a great rumor. Apparently, Rohan Shravan, the Founder of Notion Ink, just let slip an interesting tidbit on their WordPress blog. He indicated that they are expecting developers will start getting Android 4.0/ICS on November 17. Of course, speculation would be that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will probably be released around that same time. Here's a quote from the blog post,
    Hello All,

Today we are doing a full system migration and platform test for our support system.

To ensure all the requests/tickets are migrated successfully to our new system, we would be offline for 4 hrs from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM IST. Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

17th is when we are expecting ICS to be finally out with the source, and then you will see whole community (aka TabletRoms) and NI pushing in ROMs with different flavors.

    With Warm Regards

    Rohan Shravan
    It won't be long now!

I can handle that. Bring it on!

Although I wouldn't look forward to ASUS releasing on the 17th. They just had an update and may want to do regression testing first.

I'm reading that's the date the Source Code may be released. Specific firmware updates to Ice Cream Sandwich based on the new source code will likely happen later for different devices.

If history is any teacher, ASUS will be one of the first to get it.

Going by previous remarks, Rohan hasn't exactly made the most accurate of comments in the past. So I would personally take that rumour with a big pinch of salt unless confirmed by other sources. Asus have been pretty prompt with updates though, so I imagine we'll be amongst the first devices to receive it (outside of the Nexus smart-phone). Whenever it comes out and when it's been packaged up in a form suitable for an over the air update.

Ice Cream Sandwich source code released, sync pending go-ahead from AOSP

If you're chomping at the bit waiting to get your hands on a nice cool piece of Android 4.0, your wait may soon be over. Pending a final go-ahead from the Android Open Source Project, you'll be able to sync the now available Ice Cream Sandwich source code. Due to the "large push" (presumably because of all the changes), the roll out is going to take some time to complete -- project members will give the final word when things are good to go. If you try to sync prematurely, be forewarned that you'll get an incomplete copy that will be useless. The available flavor is 4.0.1 which will be the version to ship on the Galaxy Nexus, the first ICS device. This release also includes "the full history of the Android Code," signaling the first time Honeycomb source has seen daylight. Can't wait for a taste? The extremely impatient can hit that coverage link below, but we prefer our frozen treats to be properly chilled before consumption.
