What causes the battery to drain while off?

I unplugged the charger this morning and when I come home I am down to 49% battery power left. Wireless is set to off when screen is off. What else could be draining the battery?

Even with WiFi set to off with screen off, some apps like Talk and Skype keep the connection alive. I installed Auto Airplane Mode app which puts it in airplane mode when the screen is off.

Also, syncing emails and checking for market updates can use battery too.

Wow it went down 51% while not in use? In the settings it will show you what has been using up the battery.

How about a poorly designed product?

My tablet will only work when it is pugged in.

My battery will not charge. My tablet will only work when it is pugged in. Otherwise it will not charge or work. Any suggestions? Is the battery just dead? Thanks.

    Poor design of Wifi privileges?

There are many cases where you would rather keep the Wifi off, but off always is extreme for most people. Some apps turn on the Wifi too often.
There are some apps like JuiceDefender which help, although there might be some conflicting issues with some apps, sometimes Wifi gets stuck trying to turn on, while another software is trying to turn it off. It's almost perfect.

To save power, Wifi permissions should have a 5 level scale:
    1) Never turn it on, Airplane mode
    2) Turn on rarely (once or twice an hour) to check for email and messages (I like this one, saves 30-50% power)
    3) Turn off when there's no hint of requests
    4) Turn on whenever app wants to (no restrictions to any app), like existing mods
    5) Never turn off (downloads and remote access in progress or pending)

This should be a user level setting that apps cannot override unless they are a control panel app and have full understanding of the above.

On the topic of power consumption, it is possible to have an app stuck in a loop trying to do something, like access the internet, while the wifi is off. This will make the app "spin" and waste power. To test this sort of thing, app and OS developers need to add a driver layer that randomly drops packs or the entire connection or link (change ip address or router). It would be good if Google created such a test suite and required/requested everyone to test their apps with it.

Remember that Windows has had over twenty years of almost a billion people experiencing bugs, it will take at least a few more months to get it closer to perfect on Linux. Even Apple has had a decade of Linux experience to use on their devices.

On the not-charging problem, could be a bent pin in the connector, or a loose cable connection to the battery (is it soldered or not, I don't know), or a smoked FET in the charging circuit. RMA?

In my experience it is more like poorly designed apps that keep WiFi alive and drain the battery. Also, ASUS has added a way to prevent WiFi during sleep under the custom settings to help with this so-called poorly designed product.

Is the device considered to be in "sleep" mode whenever the screen is off? I've checked the option in the ASUS Custom Settings to turn off WiFi when in sleep but it keeps unchecking itself. Anyone else experiencing this issue? If I don't shutdown the device, my battery drains like crazy while "sleeping."
