That is a bit silly of Asus to do that.

They were trying to save money by having a very adaptable power brick for all countries. I would have gladly paid $10 more for a plug made specifically for the US that was reliable with no problems. IE- plug it in and it works! My plug has crapped out 3 times since early May. I always managed to resurrect it and now have a BU from Office depot, still in the box.

I have several of the same type charger, (not the same voltage). Most for various Samsung phones and 1 for a Verizon Hot Spot and none of them have the polarized plug. Which I think is strange.

Maybe due to the low voltages required for phones, the UL(underwriter laboratories) people that set safety standards for electrical stuff only require polarized plugs on larger outputs? Appliances with heat coils I know have them. Just found this on a polarized search
from http://askville.amazon.com/purpose-p...requestId=2921
"a device with an on/off switch has a polarized plug...
so that the switch opens the energized line of the circuit. if the plug were inserted backwards, turning the switch to the "off" position would not de-energize the device, it would just stop it working. AC adaptors, not having an on/off switch, are always energized when plugged in, regardless of polarity, so they don't bother polarizing the plugs."
