    Lock button is not responding?

My brightness setting is set on Auto and when I decided to change it, the screen shuts off. I press the On/Lock button but I get no response.

Rebooted the the tablet and still the same issue. I'm a noob. What do I do?

Hello duongasm and welcome to the Forum. When you say you press the on/lock button, are you referring to the power on/off button?

    Correct.

I realized that when I adjusted the brightness to the highest brightness level, after 5 seconds the screen automatically times out and goes black. Then the on/off button doesnt respond..

I changed the timeout time to "Never" but still the same thing so I reverted the brightness setting to "Auto" :/ should i send it back to Asus?

It should work with either setting. Lets try a couple things to see if we can get it the way you want it.

set it back to the brightest and if the screen goes dark, hold the power button in. In about 10 to 12 seconds the TF should reboot. If it does, let me know if you have the normal home screen displayed.

No, the battery should not effect that.. Lets try a CMR

    Hard Reset:
Unplug the power cord and shut the unit off and Press and Hold the power button and the "Down" volume button together for 6-10 seconds and let them both go. After a few seconds you should see a couple of shapes in the middle of the screen called "Wipe Data" and "Android". Wait a few more seconds until the term "Cold Boot" appears in the list near the top of the screens and just press and release the "Down" volume button again and let it reboot. If you own the dock be sure and do this with the dock connected.

It does sound like a defect. You did charge the battery before using, right?

I've an LCD monitor that, when I set the brightness below a certain level, the backlight goes off, and it is a hassle getting it on again. The LCD is still functional, but with the backlight off, I can't see anything.

I don't know what exactly is wrong with your system, but since you just got it, I would try to get it exchanged.

After months of working perfectly the same thing has happened to me. No image on the screen but when I connect hdmi the normal image is on the TV. This happened suddenly, no warning and it wasn't dropped or damaged. The only thing which worked was a data reset (annoying!) but now if I take the slider for 'brightness' above about 70% the display goes off. I can now use the TV to lower the brightness and reboot. This was bought from a Taiwan shop through Ebay, and has been working well. Wondering if the OP had any success??
