Transferring Files from cameras to TF without a PC?

I'll be taking my TF with me on vacation. My camera and my camcorder both have USB out for transferring files to a PC. (The camercorder records to an internal hard drive and the camera records to an SD card). Is there any way I can transfer the pictures/video to the TF to view them while on vacation (won't have a laptop or access to a PC.) I'm guessing not, unless I can somehow get them transferred to a microSD card first.

As an alternative, if I buy the dock, can I connect the camera and camcorder to the dock via USB and use the TF's file manager to transfer the files?

There are not many USB Drivers available at this time. If you are thinking about buying a dock just to get the USB port you may want to take your camera to a local reseller to see if the TF recognizes the camera.

I can't confirm, but I think the dock will enable USB host mode. There are also supposed to be cheaper USB connectors coming from Asus soon, more like $30 instead of $150.

Most cameras should show up as a USB Mass Storage Device, so it should work with the TF USB ports on the dock. You can also use a USB hard drive to transfer the files to.

When I plugged in my Canon 40D into the dock, the TF asked me if I waned to import my pictures.

I could then select which ones I wanted to select.

    Very impressed!!

It should work with the keyboard dock. Do the devices appear as USB drives, without requiring drivers, when they are plugged into your computer?

Asus announced the USB kit which is a much less expensive alternative, but ExcaliberPC pushed back the ETA date to September from Aug 18. I pre-ordered one.

I don't use them myself, but would an Eye-Fi SD card with wi-fi built in allow you to upload directly from the camera to your TF, possibly via an app like Wifi File Explorer?

Use a microSD card in an adaptor directly in your camera.

Thanks to all for the good ideas.

TheExpat - I will investigate the Eye-Fi SD card possibility.

theimmc - yes the devices show up as mass storage on my Win 7 PC without loading any specific drivers.

maceda, I hadn't thought about the microSD card/adaptor directly in my digital still camera. Good idea.

It just occurred to me that even if I can transfer the camcorder's video files to the TF, it won't be able to play them. The camcorder records in AVCHD, which takes a fairly powerful computer to play. The TF probably doesn't have the codec, nor the processing power to decode and play the files smoothly.

    Android | Eye-Fi

Sounds exactly like what you described.
