Need a recommendation for best 4G phone for tethering...

Planning to get a new phone and plan. Want to tether the TF to a 4G connection (if possible?) or at least get something set up for future 4G connections. If not, 3G is plan B.

Anyways, is there a good option out of the box for doing this or will I have to look at unlocked and/or rooted phone options? Thanks for any ideas here!

Verizon, TMobile, AT&T, etc. are the standard choices. If you have a phone and plan that works great, please post! Thanks!

Hi minnemike- If you root your tablet you can pretty much tether ad hoc from anything that has an app to do so thru wifi hot spot. If you don't root, than bluetooth tethering is your only option. Whether it is 3g or 4g, don't think it matters. Non rooted I was able to tether to the optimus V from virgin mobile, but that phone was rooted to get the tethering function to work. Also, was successful to bluetooth tether from my iphone 3gs, again jailbroken for tethering. So if your phone has tethering, you should be able to share the connection. There are a couple of tether threads here on the forum.

Hope someone has 4g info to share. Good luck with your TF.

I don't have any 4g info to share.

U get what u pay for.
Sprints 4 g is slow. The others are a bit faster and Verizon has definitely the fastest!

In September Verizon is releasing the Bionic which will be a duel core 4 g android.

It should be the best phone out for two months before something else comes out better.

Verizon 4g is the tits and the bionic will be its flagship for a while.

    thanx for the responses.

I'd prefer not to root the TF or phone, but will if I have to. I've read some threads about PDAnet (or tablet) being a soft solution. So maybe go there.

And yeah, Verizon seems to be the choice... I should wait for the Bionic and I guess join the ranks of the guinea pigs for that - needing to root or not. Payoff with the hot new phone should be worth it I suppose.

I have a Verizon 4G MiFi and I can say it is screaming fast. Much faster than my home internet.

I have a non rooted TF and a stock non jailbroken iPhone 4 and I can tether via wireless, Bluetooth or USB. I do have to pay extra for a 4gb tether plan thru att but it works flawlessly. I'm on vacation now and don't have great service and its still very fast. You can add the tethering plan and drop it any time. You can just use the minimum data plan otherwise and pay fifteen bucks but for the 4gb plan it's. $45/month. I don't mind paying it since I don't have to deal with rooting extra.

The iPhone 4 is not 4G yet, but I assume the next iPhone (slated for September) will be 4G. The OP may be anti-fruit so that may not work. This option may be available for other Android phones through the carrier though.

It seems a quite a few Android phones don't support ad hoc wifi. This will be an issue whether your tablet is rooted or not.
