Asus Transformer International Keyboard Layout
Hi all,
I was wondering if the Asus / Android Honeycomb has a config. to setup the US Keyboard Dock and use it as a international input on Honeycomb?
Like in Windows I have the US Keyboard - Type: International, this way I can use accentuation on portuguese / spanish words if needed.
I have tried all kinds of setup but none of them are close to the US - International type we use in Windows for example.
Do we have to do any special configuration or patch?
For example:
We have words like:
Iguaçu -> Types: I G U A {[Shift + ´] C} U
Água -> {[Shift + ´] A} G U A
But with the setups I tried on my Transformer all I could achieve was having to enter words without accentuation or "remembering" how the Portuguese / Spanish keyboard layout is and type as I remember, like "Ç" key is in place of ";".
Thanks in advance,
Leandro Negrao.

Welcome to the forum!
I am not aware of any way to do accented characters with the keyboard dock. I know with the on screen keyboards if you long press on a character it will give you the accented options. Long pressing a key on the keyboard dock just enters a bunch of that letter.
To change the keyboard layout you will need to root the device (take administrative access) which can be risky if you are not sure what you are doing, and technically it does void the warranty.
Now that the legal jargon is done, here are some instructions from the XDA forum on how to change the keybaord layout if you are interested.

Hi!
Did you find a way to solve the problem?
I sometimes need to write in french, and got the same problem.
It used to work perfectly on a windows pc.
-
I managed to do it but don´t remember well how I did it.
I'm not sure, but I belive that if you change the layout of the virtual keyboard, when insert the tablet in the dock, a message pop up asking confirmation to apply the same layout for the phisical keyboard.
Later when get home I check it.

In adjustments of the input method, in the Asus Keyboard, you uncheck the "use the system language" and then search the "spanish (USA)" option.
If you also check another keyboard layout, you can choose between the selected ones when you dock the tablet (an icon of a keyboard shows in the notification bar when you put the pointer in some place where you need to type)
In the "Spanish (USA)" layout, using the "Alt" key you can type:
ñ (alt+N)
Ñ (alt+N+shift)
ç (alt+,)
Ç (alt+,+shift)
æ (alt+Z)
Æ (alt+Z+shift)
µ (alt+M)
á (alt+A)
Á (alt+A+shift)
é, É, í, Í, ó, Ó, ú, Ú (the same)
ø (alt+L)
Ø (alt+L+shift)
ð (alt+D)
Ð (alt+D+shift)
ß (alt+S)
§ (alt+S+shift)
ö (alt+P)
Ö (alt+P+shift)
ü (alt+Y)
Ü (alt+Y+shift)
þ (alt+T)
Þ (alt+T+shift)
å (alt+W)
Å (alt+W+shift)
ä (alt+Q)
Ä (alt+Q+shift)

I have a spanish keyboard with special characters, go to Settings > Language, > Keyboard, > Asus spanish keyboard, if you have an US keyboard, you just have to remember where the special characters are
-
I speak (and write) mostly in spanish, but I have an english keyboard dock (got my Transformer from USA before Asus started to make spanish keyboards).
At first, I used to type automaticaly remembering where the "missing" characters are in the spanish keyboard, but then I manage to set like I mention in the previous post and I make it work without al the messy change of positions in the keyboard. For example the " sign is where the keyboard has it labeled and no in the shift+2 combination of the spanish keyboard.

Hello! If you have rooted system, then you could make US-Intl yourself. For example on TF201 I found plain text file /system/usr/xt9/keychars/qwerty-en_US.kcm for en_US layout. One could replace some symbols with the UTF 'dead key' symbols as in US-Intl. For example, "add grave" symbol in UTF is '̀', "add diaresis" is '̈', "add tilde" - '̃', and so on. After changing the file, reboot the system.

Thank you
Check out the app External Keyboard Helper. I am pretty sure it does not need root, and you can do a Portuguese layout.

This is the DEMO version, it works fully except the spacebar....it prints this message: _This_is_a_demo_version!_
If it works for what you want, grab the paid version. You can set it up to switch languages quickly if you use multiple as well.
