Exclamation TF101 - Screen goes dark if more than 2/3 brightness

    Hello All,
When i increase brightness of TF101 more than 2/3 or just above 60-70% the screen goes blank. Getting back the screen is very tough. Strangely it does not happen while charging. I can see the screen on TV when HDMI Connected even with out charging. I went thru some treads but i could not see a resolution as my TF101's build seems to be the latest. Can some one pls help me getting it fixed?.

I tried below but they did not work.
Cold Reset (VOL DOWN + POWER UP) - Did not work.
Factory Reset - Did not work.

My Build does seem to be latest:-
    Model number Transformer TF101
    Build number IML74K.US_epad-9.2.1.27-20120615
    Kernel Version 2.6.39.4 / android@Mars#1
    serial number C8O****

Cold reset is power + volume down. but if the factory reset didn't work, i don't think that will either. I would say it is a hardware issue and you should RMA.

A Cold boot is as described by bfmetcalf - And described in detail in the link you'll find in the Master Help Guide. I don't recall anyone else stating they had a similar problem with the brightness causing it to go blank.

If it works ok when charging, but not when on battery, then I'd take a guess that your battery is going (or has gone) high resistance and is failing to deliver enough current to run the screen backlight at higher powers.

My recommendation would be immediate RMA to Asus if still under warranty, and/or investigate other battery replacement options if out of warranty - I suspect you'll find that over time it will start to fail at lower and lower levels of screen brightness.

    Hi All

I too have the same problem with my TF101 where the screen goes blank if I touch the brightness settings. The tablet still works as I can hear it in the background. Occasionally I can get it back on by tapping the on/off button but as a rule it takes a full factory reset to get it working. The device is just a couple of months out of warranty and I came across this forum whilst searching for somewhere to send it for repair after Asus told me to get lost!
Thought I'd just let you know this fault isn't that rare.
    Regards
    Andy

Two people complaining of the problem out of all the TF101s sold - that's rare by my definition!

Your reply appears somewhat prickly so my original comment has obviously offended which was not my intention, my sincere apologies for this. However since my first post I continued to Google the problem and found dozens and dozens of tf101 users with the same problem. It would appear the 'fault' has occured since the last firmware update and Asus are aware of it but don't have a solution at present.

I'll stand by my first comment of not that 'rare' then - by my definition of the word!

    Same problem here.

Happened out of nowhere. I've bought this tablet long time ago - so no warranty.

What is happening is when I turn my brightness higher than that 2/3 it turns off. However everything else except screen is still working. Using hdma or blind guess I can turn brightness back down. then push off button 2 times (turn off and on again) and it is fine again.

Well... it took me factory reset to figure this issue out. But that does not matter. The issues is persistent. And as I can see happened to others.

UPDATE: If I set brightness to auto and then move my tablet to bright light source (close to lamp for instance) then screen goes off as well

me too. easy to consistently reproduce once you factory reset. go to screen brightness and either enable auto or try to increase brightness past 50%. Requested a RMA from Asus but getting really nervous from seeing way to many horror stories about Asus TF101 repairs. Any other "authorized" or at least knowledgeable/dependable 3rd party repair options?

Has been repaired by asus...but asus did not tell me what they did.
