Won't connect to PC via USB

This has been an issue for about 2 months but i havent had time to address it. When i connect through usb to my pc the tablet lights up but i get no connection as a storage device. Previously this wasnt a problem. I have tried downloading the drivers from asus website and when i connect it says no device detected. Reluctantly I did a factory reset on the tablet last night but the problem still remains. I have not got another pc in the house. On wednesday I will try on another pc but im not holding out hope. Is this a known issue with a fix? Could it be the cable (im doubting that as it has been taken care of). The tablet is still within warranty will they let me return it (ASUS)?

I have another issue that a thick line has appeared on the tablet. It is very similar to when you get a magnet on a lcd screen but obviously i have not been near the tablet with a magnet. Any advice on that?

    Thanks in advance

    Matt

Matt, reboot you PC then try to connect

As for the line on the screen, you may want to contact Asus

This has been an ongoing issue rebooting unfortunately doesn't help.

I did try to contact ASUS and they told me an email would be sent to my account telling me how to send it back to them but I never got an email and havent followed it up since. They seemed evasive on the phone as well and did their level best to try and convince me not to send it in. I will be trying again and definitely if I try on wednesday on a different pc and find the same issue it will be sent for repair. I was hoping someone ele may have had the same issue.

One thing to try would be to install the "android SDK" and "SDK toolkit"(or something like that). This will give you adb (android debug bridge) on your PC. Once installed you can run this command in a command prompt...
    Code:
    adb devices
which should give you your device listed if the computer can see it. Windows can have a difficult time seeing these tablets for some reason.

hm i tried. I downloaded and installed java but the install for the sdk tools reckons I havent and it says to "simply" set an environment variable to point to it. I'm afraid i dont know how to do that.

All you need is your wall charger power cable. Unplug it from the wall wart and plug it into your computer. There should be no need to install any drivers.

Oh right yes that is what doesnt work. I thought you meant to connect using the usb connection on the tablet.

I have not had the nerve to try that yet.
