Power Button Won't Boot Tablet From Cold

My power button works fine for putting my Transformer in and out of sleep but when I have a random crash (which happens from time to time) the power button does not start the device back up from cold; instead I have to plug the charger in to boot the device. is anyone else having this problem? How can I rectify it?

    Cheers
    C

Have you tried hold the power button for 20 seconds. You should get the Asus startup screen

Hard to tell whether I've held it in for as long as that TBH. In the past I only held it in for about 1 or 2 seconds and it booted from cold.

Are you running the most recent update? It sounds like the sleep of death problem that we used to constantly experience a couple of updates ago. I agree that if you hold the power button down for a long :ime it should eventually boot.

Yeah, running the latest update. it's since that update I've had this problem. I'll try the full 20 seconds when I get home tonight.

So I tried holding down the power button for 20, 30 and 40 seconds but nothing happened. As I said before, in the past I only had to hold the power button in for about 2 or 3 seconds MAX to boot from cold.

It's not the most fun option but you could back up your tablet and then do a factory reset. People often have good results from this. Settings - backup and reset - and then make sure the two options are checked and that you have an account set up on the second option on that page. I doubt that it's something wrong with the power button and more likely a software problem. If I were in the same situation I would reset it. I believe if it's backed up then everything should load back up for you when you start it the first time again. One thing to think about also is that it could be a third party app causing the sleep of death. Have you recently installed any apps before the problem started?

I've installed a couple of games for my son. Not sure if I can remember which ones though. If the backup and reset fails I take it I have to re-install everything from scratch again?

Yup. Personally, whenever I do a major upgrade (honeycomb - ICS) I wipe the tablet clean, perform the update and manually re-install everything. I can do it in a little under 30 minutes. I know you probably just did an incremental update, but it can still mess with the system and completely wiping can be a big help. Personally, I would back up my documents/photos/etc and write down the apps you have installed, wipe the tablet, install the apps you need (you may find a bunch you don't use and can just not re-install) and bring your docs/photos/etc back in. The cleaning out of unnecessary apps is a biggy for me to not just let Google restore everything. Also, if you have an android phone using the same account as the tablet, it may bring in a lot more than just the apps you had on your tablet, but the restore does usually work as long as you have the check box ticked to restore your device from Google. Just my $.02
