Moving applications to the "true" SD cards under ICS?

So I updated to ICS a few days ago, and I've already filled up my internal memory. Under honeycomb I could use any number of applications like App2SD to move applications to the microSD, which made a huge difference. Plus, with all the 1GB+ games coming out, not being able to do that really sucks!

So, I did a bit of searching and it seems this is a somewhat known issue? So, i tried to install App2SD anyway, and then it stated it could not find any external storage.

So, I'm hoping that there is a workaround someone could point me to so I can move apps off the main internal memory?

    Thanks!

Hmm, discovered an app called S2E that says it does this. But, the "application" section is greyed out so i can't transfer via that, just some of the data.

    Man, this sucks.

You must be rooted I believe to do what you are trying to do. And how many Android games can there possibly be that are 1gb or larger? If I'm wrong I'm sorry but I really can't think of any much less the many that you make it sound like!

Most of the newer Gameloft ones, Mass Effect, Max Payne, and lots of others.

And yes, I'm rooted on CM9

I read that Max Payne downloads 25 Meg to internal and then the remaining 1.5 gig to your SD card! Isn't this how all these big apps do? If not then they're screwed! Number 1 Android isn't the largest market in the world and then number 2 if they disqualify everyone who doesn't root then they're not very brilliant!

Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case. It never prompts where you would like to install (after ~50 game installs in the past two days, I can say that *maybe* 3 did?). They all seem to default to main storage. Terrible design. All of which were solved under Honeycomb with the variety of applications that allowed for moving to the SD card. Sadly, this isn't a feature in the OS, nor do the external apps work properlyh.

Does anyone have experience with S2E and know how to switch it to advanced mode in modern implementations? Apparently that does what I need it to, but the latest version doesn't have an advanced button.

I never heard of anyone getting App2SD to work under Honeycomb.

One of the issues with any of the ways to move the apps is that each manufacturer has their external storage in a different location (Samsung, Acer, Sony and Asus all have their external storage mount in different locations)

I may try S2E on my CM9 build and see if it works.

I wouldn't. I just spent the past few hours since my last post having to clear all cache and user settings and reinstalling all my apps. It *seemed* to work fine after a single reboot, but after the second, it was all hosed. After some digging, thats what happens to a lot of people. So yea, no thanks!

S2E wouldnt recognize my external storage because it is formatted exFAT I assume. I did not try FAT32 card.
