    Angry My charger melted!

    Hi all

The charger on my TF101 melted and fused to the keyboard whilst charging yesterday!
It's actually quite scary, because I'm assuming it could have caused a fire.

    Anyone else had anything similar?

I have to admit...that's the first time I've heard of this happening.

Would love to see some pictures, as it might identify just how it happened.

I charge my tablet regularly, including when I travel...and never saw the AC adapter get even close to hot enough to melt.

    Wow.

Clearly, the thermal fuse failed on this one-- they get hot, true-- but they should not get so hot as to melt the outer plastic (which is fairly sturdy ABS as far as I can tell, relatively high --for plastic-- melting point).

I'd definitely request a replacement from Asus.

Welcome to the forum. First time I've read of one melting. You had the charger resting on the keyboard? So it was plugged into the keyboard dock while you charged it ??

If you leave your tab on a pillow or the bed I find it warms up a bit, even without charging at same time.

Sending a picture would be helpful.

On the dock's keyboard? I did not catch that one-- I had assumed it was a PC or Mac keyboard... silly me.

That could explain the double-heat thing-- my dock's keyboard does warm up, if I let the battery fall well below 50%-- seldom happens these days, since I am running Auto Airplane.

I like to "hang" my charger in the air, by an ordinary extension cord (which it is plugged into). It's not touching anything, and has plenty of free air to flow around it on all sides. It still gets warm, but not as warm as it did when resting on any surface, or plugged directly into the wall.

So the actual plug is fused inside the keyboard or the charger is melted? I find that if I plug the charger into the wall upside down it doesn't get as hot. This is weird for sure and I'd be sending pictures to Asus. Post a picture here if you can.

Actually, this is the second time I heard of this happening. You need to send it to Asus ASAP. The other member this happened to had to fight but eventually got a new unit. I would also contact our Asus rep here. Send a PM to ASUS_USA and ask for assistance.

Yes-- return it to Asus-- hopefully, the engineers can use it to identify and improve these things-- and also, the OP gets a new, replacement.
