    More on Battery Drain

There have been a few threads about battery drain, but none came to any conclusion. I just completed a fairly comprehensive test and want to share the results.

First test, TF and Dock fully charged, TF NOT docked and nothing powered. TF 100% and Dock 99%.
After 12 hours, TF 100% and Doc 99%.
No measurable battery drain. Probably about 5-10% per month self discharge as would be expected for Li-ion batteries.

Second test, TF docked, but nothing powered. TF 100% and Dock 99%.
After 12 hours, TF 100% and Dock 80%.
Battery drain 19% in 12 hours or 1.58% per hour.

Third test, TF docked, powered on BUT sleeping after 5 minutes. TF 100% and Dock 80%.
After 10 hours, TF 100% and Dock 61%.
Battery drain 19% in 10 hours or 1.9% per hour.

I don'tr have any function turned off, wifi, mouse, etc.
I have Settings > Screen > Timeout at 5 minutes.
I have Settings > Screen > MobileDock Battery saving mode ON.

I don't see anything to complain about except it is a little strange that there is a 1.58% per hour drain with nothing powered on.

    Regards, Jim

It's possible, since when docked, the keyboard section maintains the charge in the TF, that the provision that carries out the process is the cause of the power loss. I'm assuming that both batteries are the same nominal voltage, and since a higher voltage is required to effect a charge, there's bound to be some power loss in boosting the keyboards battery voltage to effect the transfer.

Good test, Hawkeye. I don't see how you could keep the Transformer down that long and not be tempted to play with it. My wife still has our TF on vacation and she was telling me that the Dock was draining faster when attached when idle. But she still keeps it docked and has enough juice to still last many hours.

Continuing to love my TF and dock!

Mine is draining much faster than that.

On a Saturday in mid-July, having charged Main and dock batteries to 100% each, I powered down the machine, left it docked and put it into my back-pack ready to travel to Liverpool.

I left home about 9:30 a.m. and was in my hotel room in Liverpool before 2 p.m. When I unpacked the TF and powered it up, the dock battery was almost fully discharged.

The battery performance information display on the TF shows that it has done the same thing on three other occasions since, with the blue line indicating the dock battery charge state descending almost vertically.

I am happy to say that it is being picked up for repair on August 8th.

For the most part....folks either have a defective Keyboard Dock or they don't. In the other thread...one can do a simple test, and if there is an issue....get an RMA repair under warranty.

I agree. No matter whether I checked the Mobile Dock Battery Saving Mode or not the keyboard would come on so hopefully they fixed it and I will no longer have to worry about it.

Put your screen in sleep mode. If it stays in sleep mode when touching any KB key.. Your KB is OK
