Update firmware to different region?

Hi, I have recently got a transformer and have just joined the forums here. Let me be the first to welcome myself to the community

Now, a question.
Has anyone tried updating the firmware/os on their transformer to a different region?

The reason I ask is that in my region (Japan) the 3.1 update is not released yet
And I want it

On the Asus website it says:
"※Firmware update cannot do *SKU conversion*. Wrong SKU may cause update failure" for each of the different region's firmware files.
Is that true, or just some half-hearted attempt to scare people?

Also, I wonder if I may have a problem because of the dock/keyboard. Mine has a Japanese keyboard layout which is a bit different, so I wonder if it might mess up the keymapping if I update it with the US firmware...


What do you think? Has anyone tried?

I would personally enjoy your tablet as it is at the moment. I know it can be frustrating waiting but if you did not heed to the warnings from the website it may cause issues if you had to send it back in for a warranty repair possibly.

Yes. It can be done, I changed to from WW to US by mistake, and have now changed back.
I would recommend staying with the stock region. Asus tell me there are hardware differences that may cause bugs,and they do not support changes.
Do do it put the file EP101_SDUPDATE.zip in the microSD card - top level not in a folder. Switch off, remove any docking station, connect power lead. Hold the vol- button in while powering on, as soon as the transformer powers on you will see a message top left. release vol- and press vol+ QUICKLY. (If you wait too long it will do factory reset of all your data) It will now load the update file and reboot - this will take several minuets.
The original EP101_SDUPDATE.zip file with 3.1US is around on the web.
Or you can make your own by downloading one of the official 3.1 update files. Opening the zip and extracting the inner zip file and renaming this. It should contain a file called blob and a folder called META-INF.
Do not blame me if it all goes badly wrong.
