    Refurbished TF101

Is a refurbished tf101 a good deal? Seems like just about every vender has them, Best Buy, Amizon, New Egg, etc. Why are there some many availale?

Could be. refurbished electronics are usually checked over by the manufacturer and verified. With that being said, you still need to be cautious.

Why so many? Many tablets are out there and the competition if fierce. Should you get one? Only you can figure out if what a tablet offers is what you want and can use. Do your homework or you will be here complaining.

For me, I have bought manufacturers refurbished products and believe I got a great deal.

If I could get a Refurb TF101 32gig tab for a reasonable price, I probably would... even though I'm quite satisfied with my 16g one. When I got mine? There were no such thing as 32gig models...

There is an old rule in Computing: get as big a hard disk as you can safely afford, as there will always be something to come along that you will use the space for, and fill it up (wanting more).

Edit: I just checked Amazon for refurb 32g TF101's. Still too high for my tastes on a refurb. YMMV

I saw some refurb 16 GB for 280 at Newegg. For me, rather than get a refurb for $349 I would opt for the TF300 32GB for $399.

    For $50 you get:
More than twice the processing power (dual core 1.0 GHz vs quad 1.2 GHz)
275 days more on the warranty
    Thinner
    Lighter
Available in more colors (unless you REALLY dig Espresso Brown)
Much nicer dock if you opt for one.

    What you sacrifice:
    Gorilla Glass
One USB port if you get the dock.

For me, it comes down to the extra warranty. I had to use mine on the dock and the tablet for different reasons. Granted, it was in the first 30 days, but you never know when you might need it down the road.

Personally, it would be a tough call.

In my experience, the warranty is not a big deal. I've found that if it's honestly a defect in manufacturing, it will be apparent almost immediately. Overall, I think a lot of people chalk things up to defects and warranty issues that are really due to the user. If you treat your stuff right and don't find yourself returning every phone you get after a few months, you should be just fine with a 90 day warranty on a tablet.

What makes is a tough call is that as Frederuco pointed out, there is the TF300 now, which is vastly superior in some ways, but inferior in others. The better CPU, thinner, lighter, etc are all really compelling reasons to spend the relatively small amount of $50 extra. On the other hand, the extra USB port 'may' be a big deal to you, and gorilla glass is a huge deal. I haven't had a chance to look at it in depth, but if it uses a plastic or lexan screen, I wouldn't touch the TF300 for any price. If it just has a different brand of tempered and chemically hardened glass, then it's probably a MUCH better deal.

Frankly, I kicked myself for buying a TF101 when the TF300 came out 10 days after then end of my 30 day return period, and I've deliberately tried not to look too closely at it.

The upside to the refurbs, is that if they don't get sold out in a big hurry, the prices will probably drop drastically over the next month or two.

My understanding is that the 300 has gorilla glass... according to the various websites' specks, it does.
