    Transformer 2

Since there's no news for it yet, I just wanted to know what people thought about the Phandroid article saying that the Transformer 2 will be out by October with a Tegra 3 processor.

Kal-El (quadcore Tegra) looks promising, but for what *I* got this for (mostly not gaming), I think I'll be happy with performance and won't suffer any regrets when Kal-El Transformers ship.

You know how you could convince me to upgrade faster, Asus? Make sure the Kal-El Transformer is capable of using my existing dock. I know you won't, you're a hardware vendor, but it would reward your early-adopter TF customers sooooooo much. Lotta competition out there, you want to do anything possible to encourage brand loyalty.

I think it's a smart move on their part. I am sure that despite the original TF's success, there are enough people who are cautious of initial adaptations, knowing that the second version will likely fix most of the initial issues, possibly address some suggestions, and bring better technology. So they may wait, setting the base for the second wave of buyers hearing good news. The TF2 will certainly benefit from the original fame, plus get some of the upgraders from TF1.

In this cases, I usually skip, considering the 3rd generation and saving myself some sanity and money.

I bought the current TF because I thought already thought it was wonderous. It's kinda cool that this tablet can already start to compete in some categories outside of it's hardware class, like being used as a laptop replacement is some areas. Assuming that the current TF will get the "ice cream sandwich" update, the Transformer 2 would need to do something pretty special that the current model can't (maybe 3G capabilities, which I personally don't want/need, or maybe an app what load my dishwasher for me.) But if I do decide to get the new Transformer 2 whenever it comes, my kids would line up to get my TF1. Win/Win either way.

Asus should encourage brand loyalty in the same way Apple do. As TheExpat says, Asus should ensure the dock remains compatible with future revisions, and do so for at least two years.

If the next TF comes out with a different form factor, when it comes to upgrade time, you may as well look at what Samsung or Motorola (or whoever) have available at the time.
