Asus charger

I took my Asus on holiday but discovered today that it appears to only charge with the charger supplied. I have a number of USB chargers (wall socket type) but none of them will charge the Asus.

I am in Cyprus, which uses a similar power supply to the UK, but not identical, could this be the problem? Or is the Asus wall socket charger somehow unique?

I have my laptop with me so can it be charged this way? Via USB?

If you use the laptop and the cord in the USB power off the Transformer and it should trickle charge it but it will do so slowly. I think the Asus wall charger is currently the only one that works. I am on an email notification list waiting to order one as they are out of stock.

A couple of weeks ago I read a thread on another forum completely dedicated to the charging of the Transformer. If you Google you may be able to find it.

The pertinent information I remember from that thread is that the Transformer requires much greater voltage than most phones.... a minimum of 11 volts, and preferably 15volts. One of the posters on that forum had found an after market charger that would work. I expect that any charger rated greater than 11 volt and 1-1.7 amps output with a USB output should work. If you can read the fine (very fine) print on the Asus charger I believe you will see that it indicates 15volt at 1-1.7 amps.

Just Google:"ASUS Transformer TF101 AC Adapter" and actually a few more places pop up. And it looks like some might even have the adapter in stock ranging between 25-30+ bucks. Hmmm..however the more I click these places on I guess they're backordered too! It might be easier to just order another Tablet just for its AC adapter!!

I gotta say i was a bit bummed about not being able to find a charger and the tf not having a traditional micro usb but... This thing keeps it's charge so well as advertized I'm going to have to focus more on actually not worrying about the batt life left. Even then I can always charge the base seperate if I get into batt. trouble.

I found a solution. The wall charger provides a trickle charge. It takes ages to charge it (I'm talking days) but at least it provides a charge. Next time I am packing the Asus charger.

Personally, I think a charger should have come with the dock too. I was a little peeved that it did not.
