Stop cursor keys tabbing out of browser edit boxes

    Hi,

I bought my g/f an Eee Transformer for Christmas and she has one big problem with it, when she uses the cursor keys on the physical keyboard while editing text in a browser text/edit box they act like tab, tabbing out of the edit box she is in. Is there any way to stop this, and make the behave as on a normal PC, moving the cursor within the text?

    Thanks, Jamie

    Welcome to the forum!

    Which browser are you using?

I have not noticed this behavior in any of the browsers I have used, but it could be one I have not touched in a while. Also, does it happen on all websites, or just certain ones?

I have a similar problem - often I go to enter in a text box, like this quickreply box here, and if I'm not careful, the info will go in the Google search box up the top and before I know it, I am a couple of pages (Google and the search results) away from where I was. This is despite tapping on the relevant text box to start with.

Sounds to me like a case of "Wild Thumb Syndrome"

As you are typing on the keyboard dock despite your best effort, your thumbs are tapping the touchpad and causing the cursor to jump around.

    There are 2 remedies:
Train your thumbs to stop jumping around when you are typing (yeah, does not work for me either)

On the top row of keys tap the 4th button from the left. This will turn the touchpad off so your thumbs will not cause it to jump around.

I am hoping that ASUS comes out with a fix to disable the touchpad when keys are being pressed. They have this on their netbooks, but the 4th key will fix you up in the meantime.
    ceugb and critique like this.

Good try, Fred, but no luck on this one. Not long after first getting the TF, I discovered that key and basically have had the thumb pad disabled since - after all, most of us don't need a mouse when it is touch-screen.

I have had a bad case of wild thumb syndrome (but never knew the name of my affliction) with the laptop, not as easy to turn off and on as with the TF - as well as being more necessary.

Are you happening to have wild fingers tapping around the touchscreen? Not sure how your cursor will jump to the search bar like that, unless you do a shift tab combination without realizing it.

My fingers aren't as wild as you suspect, Fred. However, I started using Opera a couple of days ago, and haven't noticed the problem since then.......
