    Best Buy had a special prior to the Christmas season on the TF101s that were in their current stock of $299. Most likely the $399 TF101s in their current stock have been replenished by Asus after Asus indicated they intended to keep both the TF101 and TF201 models in their product mix thus the x1 vs a1 model designatiin. Bottom line is they are the exact same unit manufactured with the same components. As far as the difference in the selling price its simply you purchased a sale unit for $299 and they do not have any sale units left in their stock that are designated x1 but they do have fresh stock designated a1 at a retail selling price of $399. It sucks but then that's life some times.

    When i return things, I can care less what the guy behind the counter shows on his vt100 terminal. I have MY receipt in hand with the price I paid. Now that is for unopened merch. I had a problem with my first TF and when I brought it back for an exchange, opened, i had no problem, though she did volunteer to say that a return was not possible due to it being open.

    isnt there a law that prohibits a no return no exchange policy? im glad you have replaced yours.

    At Futureshop here in Canada, I have learned that paying the extra $50 for the 2 year replacement warranty has bailed me out of nonsense a few times.

    If this thing acts up, I take it in and demand they do what the sales guy said they would. Replace it with equivalent or better. Period. Sometimes they try to get you to ship it to the manufacturer but I simply tell them I was talked into the warranty with the understanding that the warranty meant I did not have to deal with the manufacturer.

    Usually after some push and pull, I get my way.

    The number difference allows them to not price match with other stores.

    You see this at every major retailer. I bought my mother a S&W for Christmas and ran across this. Found the gun for $520, but the Cabellas with their own part number had it for $680. They wouldn't price match because it was a "different part number."

    It is still strange that in the course of less than two weeks, they got rid of all of their X1's and deleted it from the system. The register jockey first tried telling me that I did not actually purhase my TF there... That argument was short lived.


    On a different topic, she told me that even if they had them in stock, I could not exchange straight up until I had my charger. I had to drive an hour and a half one way to my office in Dallas to get the charger before they would do anything.

They told me that the warranty basically doesn't cover anything and that I would have to ship the device to them and possibly pay for repairs on a 10 day old device.

    Where are you getting these numbers, my TF101 says exactly that on the bottom of the unit near the dock connector?
