The feel of the ASUS glass vs. the rest (Toshiba, Playbook, Acer, Samsung).
I had intended to buy two Asus Transformers. Reviews all looked promising. In preparation, I have gone from one store to another in my spare time to play test tablets (Bestbuy, Staples and Futureshop). Several of them. In all of them I encounter the same thing. Super slick smooth feel to the glass. Except for Asus demo models.
On Samsung, Acer Iconia, Toshiba Thrive, ipad2 and Blackberry Playbook, my fingers simply glide across the slick glass (Playbook the smoothest of all the surfaces). All the tablets are as smooth to the touch as waxed chrome. Glide, luxiorious and slick are the only words I can use to describe it. On the Transformer store demo's I have played with (6 separate ones now) my finger skids on the glass like there is some kind of resin film. Almost gritty even though it looks glass smooth? Tacky is not the right descrition but not slick and smooth like the others. It's faint but it's there. Just enough to annoy. Is this some kind of shipping coating from the manufacturer?
Basically walk up to a Samsung or Blackberry playbook and swish your finger around for a bit and then go right to the ASUS and try it. I feel a definate difference in the smoothness of the glass. Is this how they all are? Or has the store done something to the Asus demo models?
As it stands, I am uncomfortable getting this model if this is how they "feel" to the fingers.
Charles.

Perhaps it`s because transformer uses gorilla glass, which makes it virtually scratch resistant.

I have a theory
More people play with the Transformers leaving the surface glass dirty
I have two TF101's at home and one at my in laws and they are absolutely awesome. In fact we had a Kindle Fire and returned it next day after we got spoiled with how smooth the Transformer screen felt.

I just got done doing the same thing.
pssst- smell my finger....

Don't know for certain but the Gorilla glass seems to me to be the real difference -- though the difference in the surface feel doesn't seem that great to me and I have had my hands on quite a few different tablets.
I would take the Gorilla glass over a screen protector.

Store demos dont do much for me. You never know who touched them and with what on their hands. Many of the Manufactures use Gorilla Glass and they "should" feel about the same.
What I do know is mine is as smooth as silk. Most likely due to keeping the screen clean and free if fingerprints

No I'm afraid that the tablets are probably all used quite a bit and the OP has a valid point.

You're welcome....
In all seriousness, I recall a similar feeling when looking at the tablets. But for me, Gorilla glass is the way to go.

I'm just comparing my TF to my iPad and I can't tell any difference! They both are really smooth.

Nothing will make me happier. Took two home. One for the son and one for me. Under the tree tonight when they are wrapped. I will see Christmas day.
If two companies use the same "glass" then it should feel the same. Just checked Corningwares sight and Acer Iconia and the Samsung Galaxy Tab are the same glass so if THEY are smooth in the store there is no reason for the ASUS not to be right?

Anything I should wipe with prior to use if they feel tacky? Another thread said eye glass cleaner ?
