    Anti-virus Software

Is ant-virus/spyware software really needed on the TF or any android tablet? I received CA Mobile Security with my TF but I don't know it I want it.
    The Theft Protection maybe cool.

Thanks for any insight on this matter.

The security companies would love people to spread the word that AV is needed on Android (and other Linux operating systems for that matter!) but the truth is, as long as you're careful (don't download apps that need loads of permissions they shouldn't require) and generally don't do really stupid stuff (rooting without knowing what you're doing for example) then you don't need anti virus software. If it doesn't slow your tablet down and makes you sleep better at night, who am I to say get rid of it, but in honesty, no, you don't need it.

I had to install some because the IT guys at work made me since they let me on the network. Whatever. So I just put the free AVG app on and it seems to be really fast and I haven't noticed it draining the battery so why not.

I put the free Webroot Security Basic app on mine since it rated pretty high. Like Mickeylittle said, why not.

I use Lookout, from the Android Market. I figure I don't lose anything, and better safe than sorry. No problems with resource drain.

How did you install it from the market? It says it's not compatible with the TF or Acer A500 for that matter.

Simply because you download files from a trusted source (i.e. The Android Market) does not mean you will not run into malware instances. Google recently had to pull the plug on a bunch of malicious apps that were initially made available through the market. You should always run AV. To pretend that malware isn't a problem for any platform is to be negligent and asking for problems. I've worked in IT for almost ten years and in information security and computer forensics for the better part of the last four. Malware is a problem across the board and if you're honestly naive enough to believe that it's only a Windows problem, you deserve to have your system hosed up. AV software has come a long way and requires little system resources. Look into Eset's Android AV. It's still in beta but it is, by far, the best Android AV solution available. It is fast, thorough, easy on system resources, and is the only Android AV that I'm aware of that uses hueristic based detection. Eset is one of the best AV/IT security companies on the planet in my experience and their Android app is no exception. And no... I don't work for Eset.
