    Question Google Ice Cream Sandwich

I have heard that Google is not continuing with Honeycomb and will replace it with a new multi-platform, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Has anyone else heard or know anything about it.

Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich are just names for the different versions of the Android OS (like Gingerbread, Froyo, Eclair, Donut, Cupcake). About all we know about ICS is detailed in that post, Google hasn't released more information since their conference last month.

ICS is basically supposed to merge the tablet OS and the phone OS into one compatible OS. In a sense it will be the new Honeycomb that is compatible with phones.

I'd love Swedish Meatballs, but I doubt Google considers that a desert. Actually I love to see a Tegra 3 Transformer running ICS right before Christmas.

Our beloved TF will be able to upgrade to ICS, right? Never used Android before, so just wanna check I haven't bought something that will only last as long as the current iteration of the OS?

Most likely yes. Google announced at the latest I/O (Developer Conference) that they are working with a lot of Android hardware manufacturers to increase the amount of Android updates new products receive, thou Asus was not listed as one of the company's, I trust they will update the device for at least a year, and soon be among the manufactures on the list.

As long as the hardware can support the OS Google will continue updates for an 18 month period. But even if it doesn't support it by their standards there will always be developers porting OSs to devices that Google and OEMs have left behind. Perfect example is the original Droid.
