Help: Screen has white artifacts on it for no apparent reason.

So this issue appeared a couple weeks ago and I can't figure out what it is. Basically there are white artifacts around the left center area of the screen. They look like streaks from a marker or something, or similar to an LCD if you press down on it really hard. I have no idea how they appeared (certainly not through any personal abuse), and they aren't incredibly substantial (I only see them at all when the screen is black or very dark), but they're irritating when watching movies or TV shows and they are clearly hardware damage. Will Asus charge me to replace the LCD? If so, is it possible do it myself instead (I'm fairly experienced with replacing damaged handheld system and console parts in the past as long as I have a guide)?
