That is the best one on this forum tried & true.

Just be sure to read carefully and make sure you understand before doing anything.

Root is not going to help you, so forget about that step for now. You will be flashing SuperSU (root binary) as part of the rom installation, so no need to worry about it now.
What you need to do is get a custom recovery onto the tablet. That's the hardest step. The rest is easy.
Frederucu's guide is still valid, but yes, the links do not work anymore and some of the newer developments are missing.

The best way to get a custom recovery onto your tablet is with EasyFlasher. Download and install it on your PC and run it.
    https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho....php?t=1688012

It comes with several custom recoveries to choose from and I cannot remember what they were. But I think one of the is a version of TWRP. Flash that one. Or any of them - does not matter really.
Reboot tablet and boot to recovery.

Read the OP of this thread very carefully and download the rom, recovery, SuperSU and gapps from the links provided: https://forum.xda-developers.com/eee...t/rom-t3318496
Load all the files on a fat32 formatted microSD

First you need to update your recovery. You get TWRP 2.8.1 from the first link under Installation Instructions.
Boot into your current recovery, choose Install, navigate to the TWRP 2.8.1 zip and flash it.
    Reboot the tablet.
Boot back into recovery which now should be the 2.8.1 version of TWRP. Make sure you got that right.

Next step is to format data which will erase everything on your tablet, so back up your data.
In TWRP go to Wipe, Format Data, type "yes" and go have some coffee, this will take an hour+. DO NOT INTERRUPT THE FORMATTING PROCESS. and make sure the tab has enough juice.
Ok, now you are ready to flash the rom, gapps and supersu. You flash (install) those one after the other - no reboots in between.
Once that is done reboot to system and enjoy

Moved to TF101 development 'cause that's where it belongs

Still confused, does this method negate the need for root or bootloader to be unlocked.
    Thanks.

The TF101 is different from all the other Transformers. It does not have a locked bootloader. That's the good news.
The bad news is that it also does not support fastboot mode which is what we use on almost any other device to flash recoveries and do other low level stuff.
The 101 has APX mode where you use a protocol called NVFlash and a tool called Wheelie to flash the device. EasyFlasher incorporates and uses both of those.

Root is totally beside the point here. Root is on the rom level, it allows you to manipulate certain protected system files of your operating system. But the OS does not come into play until you flash a rom.
What you need to do first is on a lower level of your system.

You have to lay the foundations and utilities first, then you build the house on top of it.
And once or while you build the house you can decide if you want locks on your doors and windows and how fancy or complex the structure should be etc....

Does that make sense to you?
Flashing a recovery, formatting your data partition etc, that's building the foundation and installing utilities.
The house is your rom or OS, windows and doors being access points, the locks = root or no root.

You only need root if you want to run services or apps that need permission to access and change protected system files (a key to what's behind locked doors).

Installing a new rom is like razing the entire house and building a new one in the same spot. Doesn't matter if the doors are locked or not if you knock the whole thing down, does it?

Most people want root to get rid of the bloatware OEMs clutter our devices with. Because of marketing agreements OEMs stick these apps on the protected system partition so that the user cannot remove them, you need access to /system (the root partition in Linux) to trash that stuff.
For custom roms bloatware is not a problem. They got invented to get rid of all that.
So when you flash KatKiss you have the option to flash SuperSU (root) after flashing the rom and gapps but you do not have to. If you do not know what you would do with root access - don't flash it!
Your tablet is much better protected and your information safer on it without root.

Hi again, thats very helpful and explains a lot. Got issues on PC recognising drivers but from above assume i only need apx and not adb n fastboot.
    Again thanks for advise.
