    TF101 Recovery?

    Hey all,

I'm trying to get to the stock recovery (no CWM installed, yet. which install method do you recommend?) to do a factory reset before taking the firmware upgrade.

When taking the same steps I use on the Razr (once turned off volume down + power hold) I am brought to the standard boot screen with some text prompting me to press volume up. Once done, it brings me to andy with a gear inside him and a progress bar below for a second or two then I see the image I attached. There is a very similar graphic when getting to the stock recovery on the Razr but when I press volume up + volume down (the step taken to leave that screen on the Razr) nothing happens. In fact any combo of key holds I can think of does nothing so I end up just rebooting, confused.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

If you are looking to just do a factory reset, go to Settings - Backup and Reset - Factory Data Reset.

If you are looking for a hard reset (clears caches) that is VOL DOWN and POWER. NO need to push VOL UP to enter recovery.

I would also recommend going to settings and Force Closing and Clearing the data on DMClient and CMClient since you are getting Andy falling over when you enter the stock recovery.

The picture you are seeing, is the locked boot-loader recovery display-- locked down by Asus. It's completely normal, unless you've applied the official Asus boot-loader unlocker program-- which will also "phone home" to Asus (or it won't run) your serial number, blacklisting your tablet for warranty repairs.

What you were trying to get into was the factory-wipe/cold start screen. To do that? Power off your tablet completely-- not simply a sleep mode, but power off (long press on the power button)

Next, press and hold VOL DOWN, then press and hold POWER until the screen lights up with some tiny white writing. Wait a bit, until you see a pair of icons-- one is the Android robot (highlighted) and the other is "Factory reset" (not highlighted).

You'll need to use VOL DOWN at this point to select one or the other, then VOL UP to confirm the factory wipe. Once confirmed, it'll show the little robot's gears winding as it wipes out your flash, including your internal SDCARD. Note: this is NOT an external microSD or the full-size SD card in the dock.

It takes about 5 minutes or so to do, so be patient. It'll then do a cold-start after the wipe, and bring you up to the WELCOME screen.

I am pretty sure that the TF101 does not have a locked bootloader since there is no "unlock" tool for the TF101, only the Prime. You can run custom ROMs on the TF101 and return it back to stock before returning to ASUS and no way for them to know about it.

I figured the flash page was normal because the Razr does almost the exact same thing, just down a different path it sounds like.

    Thanks for the step-by-step.

Now I've seen quite a few different CWM installation tools, which one did you guys use?

I use Gnufabio's CWM. It is still 3.X.X.X, but it works great.

I have heard good things about Rogue Recovery too. I would stay away from 5.4.0.4 as it always boots to recovery.
