    rooting b80 on 8.6.5.21?

Sorry I'm new to this forum and just got a transformer tf101. from what I've read on here, it seems like the ony way to root is by downgrading, or by waiting for the new razorclaw app to be released. So my question is, does anyone know how long it will take for that app to be released? Or should I just wait for is, if so when will that be released? (Sorry like I said, I'm new) thanks in advance! (:

    Welcome to the forum!

RazorClaw took advantage of a hole in the App Backup app. This hole has been patched, so RazorClaw may not work on any other versions of fimrware.

If you *really want* to root, it can be done by "upgrading" to firmware 8.6.6.19 (which is the same as the 8.6.5.19 except it is for the TF101G with 3G chip). Your system will allow a manual update as it appears to be an update. Keep in mind that this will show your TF as a TF101G and some apps (like Duke Nukem 3D) may not be compatible in the market.

Your system will also prompt you to update to the 8.6.6.23 version of firmware that also has the App Backup fixed and you will lose root unless you use Voodoo rootkeeper.

I would not go down this path unless you wanted to flash a custom ROM like Roach's Prime ROM, Revolver or Revolution HD.

Be sure to read the "Thinking of rooting?" link in my signature.

Most users find that rooting the TF is not as necessary since the App Backup is there. Others find it to be absolutely necessary. The choice is yours.

Here is the link to the details to root firmware 8.6.5.21

I don't know how long it will take for the update (if it ever happens) but attaining root access by downgrading was quite simple, in my opinion. I have a B80 and the file from the thread worked very well. I don't know the details behind why the method does or doesn't work for certain devices. All I can be sure of is that it worked for my TF101 (B80). If you're impatient, it may be worth it to give it a try.

Good luck and congrats on the Transformer! They're pretty awesome.
