Putting the usb dongle in there is definitely a possibility. In fact, there is still room and I intend to put it in at some other time.
No prob, hard to tell emotions with text messages.

One of the things I collect is information. I tend to accumulate information and put sometimes unrelated pieces of information together to get new information. What you did is something very new and exciting and I naturally wanted to know more about it. But if you want to keep some aspects of it private, I respect your decision.

What I'm thinking is duplicating the USB dongle as a stand alone device, provided someone can figure out where to buy the proprietary 40 pin connector. It'll be nice to have a cable that plugs in to the tablet, and ends with a USB host (female A type) connector, or even a mini USB connector to plug into peripherals. Such a cable would be useful for those who want to connect it to their DSLR and use it to control time lapse (among other things) and make it more convenient to connect their external hard disks without needing a dock.

BTW there's a mod on xda forums for adding a standard barrel type connector to the dock for charging, so that you can use a standard 12V DC power adapter instead of the Asus adapter for charging.

If you intend to offer this as a service, I wish you success.

    Sad but true, unfortunately.

Looking forward to more clever mods from you.

Wow, this is an awesome mod.
Is the hard drive heating up when used?

Clever concept, I always thought you were just plugging an USB External hard drive in and thought what is the big deal? Until I finally opened up and read this thread. What a shock, sure is a lot nicer than dragging my external hd around if needed. Presto flip a swith and turn on a 1/2 TB HD, just think of the possibilities.

    Good Job,
    Don
PS There is no way I am good enough at soldering to try this ever!!

Before I make this comment, let me preface it by saying this is an intriguing modification.

Kids - don't try this at home (unless you are prepared to have a dead Transformer). Obviously the OP knows what he is doing.

OK - now my real comment...

When are we going to see the duct tape closed device photos?

This is probably one of the coolest things since sliced cheese!! Definitely sounds like something I'd like to do when I finally get around to getting a keyboard dock. I may even fast track getting a dock just to do this. I am, of course, a trained electronics tech...so if I mess it up, I can do it really good...lol

Yep, just checked Amazon...I know what I'm spending my next $150 on....

From another thread that showed the entire dis-assembly process...this is not something for the faint-hearted.

There are many delicate internal connections that have the potential to fully disable the unit.

It is really cool, and Kudos to the OP on both the quality of his information and details.

My only concern is that while he and perhaps a few others are qualified to take the experiment path - it is not easy and comes with very signficant risk.

    OK - off the soapbox.

    Carry on.
