    My first question - why?

The tablet will charge from the dock if properly docked and the dock plugged into the charger.

Secondly, the USB ports on the dock are not energized to charge other devices unless the tablet is plugged in (at least on the TF101). If I have the two docked, I can charge my iPhone through USB. If it is only the dock charging, the iPhone will not charge through the same port.

Lastly, if the USB ports were active, it would work ONLY if the screen is off. The wall wart charger outputs 15 VDC @ 1.2 amps. A standard USB port (including those on the keyboard dock) only output 5 VDC @ 0.5 Amps. Wall wart charge rate is around 35% per hour (per battery). A standard USB port charge rate is 3% per hour (between 30 and 48 hours to fully charge the tablet battery if it is completely flat)

    hmmm, kinda confusing

maybe he means he will connect the 40pin to the tablet then connect the other end (the USB) to the USB port on the dock, and HOPE the tablet will charge the dock... man how many new things can we do with this TF...

why not try it out joe, and tell us if it starts to smell like burnt cheesecake, hopefully not.

It sounds like he means connecting the USB adapter to the tablet, and using the proprietary cable to connect from the adapter to the dock's 40 pin connector.

I'd like to echo Frederuco's "why?"

Can the dock be charged from 5V? I connected it to my PC's USB port and the light does not flash. Even if it charges, it will be slow, and inefficient.

The dock doesn't charge via the USB port, it charges via the 40 pin port, and the tablet side does not have a USB port - even if there was enough power to charge one from the others USB port - it would not be dock charging from tablet, it would be tablet charging from dock.... which it does anyway when its docked

I connected the dock to a 5V USB charger for an hour yesterday. Tablet was not docked. Before charging : 71% (according to dual battery widget). After charging, 71%. Does not look like you can charge the dock using a "normal" USB port.

I had the same experience. I even tried an iP*d charger with the dock only and it never charged for me.

    IP*d charger output: 5 VDC @ 2.0 Amps
    USB 3.0 Max output: 5 VDC @ 0.9 Amps

You can use a USB 3.0 extension cable with the ASUS wall wart to make the charger cable longer, but a USB 3.0 charger will probably not get better charging results than the iP*d charger, however I have not tested this.
