cost to repair screen?

My girlfriend has a transformer that had a little accident. A water bottle dropped on the screen and cracked it. When its turned on the screen lights up and a whole bunch of lines appear all over it but then it turns itself off again. i can plug it into my computer and was able to back up all the files on it so it has at least partial functionality.
I had contacted ASUS but they wernt able to give me any sort of indication on how much it would cost to fix. Bestbuy told me that to repair without any protection plan would be well over the initial cost of the device. does anyone have any idea on what it would cost to have it repair from ASUS? should i just buy a new one?


Update: it does boot. sort of. when you hold the power button in to power it all the way off then turn it back on there is what may be an animated ASUS logo (all vertical lines). it does look like the only thing damaged is the screen. so that seems like good news

On the forum I have seen quotes in the $200.00 range for just a screen. If any thing else is damaged that will more than likely increase the cost. That is why ASUS will not give you a quote until they can check it out.

So I guess your starting point is at least the $200.00.

ah nuts. i was afraid of that. 200$ is kind of the most i would want to spend. i may start looking into buying and installing my own replacement screen. thanks for the reply though

If it's just the outer glass that is cracked I would expect the repair to be about $100.

its actually the inner screen. the outer glass is somehow intact.

All you can do at this point is send it to Asus and they will e-mail you a quote

well, i started searching for a replacement screen and found one at LAPTOP LCD SCREEN FROM $44. HP ACER TOSHIBA DELL APPLE COMPAQ. Notebook screen, laptop display, notebook lcd, laptop tft, screen DELL, ACER lcd, screens SONY, lcd DELL, ACER lcd. the only problem was that in order to replace the screen the glass touchscreen digitizer thing had to be removed. of course it is glued on with some sort or adhesive sorcery. as i was trying to remove it it ending up breaking. so now im looking for a screen digitizer. ive scoured the internet and havent had any luck. lots of ipad and galaxy tab digitizers but none for the transformer. does anyone know where i may be able to find one?

btw the new screen fits and seems to be of better quality than the original. nice color reproduction and apparent contrast ratio (it didnt come with specs but it seems nicer).

I had the same issue....only outer glass cracked. The screen has full functionality....no lines, bad pixels etc.

Sent it in to ASUS, and they quoted me $295 for the repair (all inclusive of taxes, labour, shipping)

Asked them to send it back (I paid $300 for it)

Anyway, put a screen protector on it and it is working fine.
