Dropped Transformer, broken on-button, sad face
Hi,
Shortly before bed I plugged my Transformer in to charge (resting on top of wife's iPad) without its dock, 10 minutes later it slid off landing 4 feet below on a tiled floor (I swear the iPad did it!) causing the metal frame to warp slightly and the back cover to half pop-off. I have now clicked the cover back in to position and the Transformer now works perfectly except for the on button which now feels spongey and refuses to perform the function implied by its name. I figure I now have three options:
1. Send off to Asus to repair - which could take a very long time as I live in Malaysia and everything takes an age out here
2. Repair it myself - not over keen on this as I have neither the tools nor the experience
3. Find some alternative way to turn the thing on - for example I tried using Tasker to create a 'turn on when shaken' routine but Tasker does not have access to screeen on function on Transformers. I thought perhaps find some way to reassign the volume button but have no idea how....
Any help or advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation,
Jon

TRANSFORMER FORUMS LEGEND
Welcome to the forum!
Personally, I would crack it open and fix it myself, but I am a DIY person.
This thread should fill your needs for another work around which reprograms the volume up button to unlock. http://www.transformerforums.com/for...t-working.html

Hi Frederuco,
Thanks for your support. I tried the apps suggested in the link but they worked very inconsistently. In the end I gave it to my friendly neighbourhood IT technician who opened it up and fixed the button. A lucky escape!
Thanks again,
Jon

Thank goodness a happy ending! Each story of dropped Transformers makes me hold mine even tighter. But accidents happen and yours turned out okay. (Don't set it on that jealous iPad again!)
