Angry Problem With Typing in Flash

    Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you for the excellent resource. My new prime is the first android device I've ever owned, and the learning curve seems steep at times. However, I've been able to acquaint myself and answer a number of noobish questions by simply browsing the forum, so I thank you all!

One issue that I cannot find an answer for pertains to typing into a flash field. I simply cannot do it! The browser correctly displays the flash field, the text box within the field, and the cursor, but my virtual keyboard does not pop up. I have no idea how to manually bring it up, and my prime can't seem to detect that I need to enter text. Does anyone else have this problem?

FYI, I have tried accessing the same flash field, element or box each time, using several different browsers. I've also tried accessing different flash areas that require text input, with each browser, to no avail. I am running ICS, and so far I have used the stock browser, dolphin HD, Firefox, opera, and maxthon. I have Adobe flash and air installed. Also, text entry works fine on my PC. I don't currently have a dock, and haven't tried using any Bluetooth keyboards, as that would defeat the point of the tablet`s superior portability.

Please let me know if I need to provide anymore info. Really hope someone can help, as I need this to work for school ASAP!

    Thanks very much,

    SapientTrip

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Can you explain a bit more about your problem?

I for one have no idea what typing in flash is?

Can you provide an example that we could test?

Three questions and no answer, sorry!

I think the best thing to help is if you can provide the URL of the website.

I know that some sites have issues with the mobile browsers. If I go to GMail's site when I am set to Desktop mode, I cannot compose and email. Tapping in the text field does not pop up the keyboard, and if I try to type with the keyboard dock, the browser crashes. (This is in Honeycomb, ICS browser may have fixed this)

I am thinking this is more likely coming down to browser compatibility with the website more than anything else. Not sure there is much you can do about this.

What the OP is talking about is there is a flash object that loads on the page, and within that flash object is a text field to fill out.

I'm not sure how to provide an example. The flash object in question is on a website that requires a login, so it isn't a simple matter of providing a URL. The flash object is supposed to allow me to input text and/or numbers to provide answers to chemistry problems. It shows a text box within the flash object, and I can touch the text box, which presents a cursor, just like any other text entry field. However, the keyboard doesn't come up, so I cannot enter anything into the text box.

It works with any browser on my PC, but with nothing on android. I can`t even try Firefox here because it mystifyingly doesn't even support flash on android...

I'm assuming that the stock browser is as close to chrome as I'm going to get? Are there any browsers that match up with common desktop browsers like IE or FF as well? Or a way to get flash to work on FF for android?

I'm going to attempt to use splashtop via mycloud, which should allow me to utilize anything I need. I was really hoping to be able to access my online homework without having to access home PC. Having to leave that running all day kind of sucks IMO.

Thanks for the opinion though, you kind of confirmed my fears regarding compatibility.

I can compose an email with the virtual keyboard in gmail, while in desktop mode. I do have ICS, though, so I suppose that answers that question! Just wanted to make that known in case it helps in any diagnoses.

Thanks for the update on ICS/Gmail.

I think Splashtop will be your best bet.
