Screen goes off when I increase brightness

No image on the screen but when I connect hdmi the normal image is on the TV. This happened suddenly, no warning and it wasn't dropped or damaged. The only thing which worked was a data reset (annoying!) but now if I take the slider for 'brightness' above about 70% the display goes off. I can now use the TV to lower the brightness and reboot. This was bought from a Taiwan shop through Ebay, and has been working well. Any ideas?
The response from Asus was to reset and wipe data - even though I told them I'd already done this.

I'm sure it's legit. Firmware is TW. I've checked for updates since resetting but it said there weren't any. Kernel v 2.6.36.3, Build HTK75.TW_epad-8.6.5.19-20111107, android 3.2.1

Your update are the most recent. If you live in the US you may want to download the US firmware from ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- this way you can get the Apps that are availble to all in the US

It does sound like a firmware issue... but can't be 100% about it incase the increase in brightness is causing some hardware to fail

If you would prefer to try fixing it yourself rather than RMA there are a few options of flashing different firmware, and / or rooting and flashing a custom ROM

If your TF is serial number B60 or earlier and you don't mind having a UK or US firmware, you could follow the back to stock link in my sig - or if you want a custom ROM, you can root using Razorclaw then flash ClockWorkMod recovery and flash a custom ROM from the Micro SDCard

Notes: Rooting and Custom FW = No OTA updates from ASUS until flashed back to stock
    TF No longer charges: Clicky
    Transformer won't boot: Clicky
Power / Lock button issues: Clicky
    Flash downloaded ASUS Firmware: Clicky

Thanks, I'm desperate to try something other than have to send it off to Asus - especially over Christmas. I'm in Melbourne, Australia. I assume it's running stock as I haven't modded anything, although I've thought about it. I might try rooting and see if that helps. Odd it works perfectly until I try to move brightness up!

Hi, have you found solution to this problem? Because I'm experiencing exactly the same issue. But mine tablet was bought in NY, but I have Russian google account. But It does not look like it matters.

I can't say for sure if my device was not dropped for sure because kid play with it sometimes, but there is no visible damage.
