Official Unveiling for Asus Transformer AiO Hybrid Android/Windows 8 Tablet/PC

When Asus gets motivated to go all out on a device, they throw everything but the kitchen sink at it, and today's unveiling is a prime example of that. Asus officially announced the full specs, pricing and availability dates of their new Asus Transformer AiO, and if you can't find something to do with this marvelous hybrid device, then you probably aren't trying hard enough. This beast of a device isn't just a tablet, and it isn't just an All-in-One PC. It is all of the above combined into one glorious amalgamation. Here's a full breakdown on this beastly device.

For the PC half of the device:
    • 18.4-inch display with Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution - with 10-point touch
    • Windows 8
    • Intel Core i5-3350P processor
    • Up to 8 GB of RAM
    • 1 TB HDD
    • GeForce GT 730M GPU
    • SuperMulti DVD Drive there
    • USB 3.0, HDMI, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and an SD card reader

For the Tablet Half: (Asus Eee Pad design aesthetics)
    • 18.4-inch display with Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution - with 10-point touch
    • Nvidia Tegra 3 processor
    • 2 GB of RAM
    • 32 GB of on-board storage
    • A microSD support
    • 1 MP front-facing cam
    • 32 Whr battery capable of around 5 hours of continuous use
    • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
    • 5.28 pounds by itself

Of course, a monster device like this does come with a monster price. It will hit retail outlets April 12th for $1299. Still, many AiO PCs sell for the same price, so ultimately the fact that you have a fairly powerful new PC that doubles as a dock for your multi-OS Android/Windows 8 tablet, is a pretty good deal overall.

The only drawback I see is the screen size, I would have liked a 15.6 size much more portable. This one is pretty much just for using around the house.
Price for what you get is somewhat reasonable.

well, asus seems off the mark for what it may deliver....I guess for that kind of high price I would order up 2 x viewsonic vsd 240's and an intel NUC pc. PS what aside from sheer screen size is the advantage of an 18" tablet??? In other words it seems like a product that generates the question "sure you COULD do this but why would you?"

davioh - If you do a search for Asus Transformer AIO on Youtube you'll find many comments from viewers. Many of them want it.What you find questionable is the answer someone else is looking for. One man's ceiling is another man's floor, the grass is always greener, glass is half full, etc.

You can hook up an external monitor to the base apparently, thus you get full Windows 8 PC and an Android tablet. Also comes with a TV tuner I think.

    Isn't having choices great?

...oh TV tuner may be cool... but I guess I am responding to the relatively high price for 2 computing devices bundled in one (android tablet+ windows 8 all in one). I am thinking for close to that price I would spend the cash on VSD240 x2 (2 much larger 24" touch screens) + a small PC such as intel NUC for close to the same cash. Yeah you don't have the detachable 18" tablet but I can't see the appeal of a "luggable" 6 pound 18 " tablet sans keyboard. Finally only 5 hours battery life it seems to equal the anti-transformer (not sure how you sell that one?)
Bored on a Friday thinking of creative advertising and sales for ASUS; Hey all are you finally sick and tired of the great battery life, portability and keyboard of your EEE Pad transformer? FOLKS JUST Try the new asus Aio p1801 It has GREAT features like a keyboard dock...OOPS edit no, But it does have an outstanding battery life of 15 hours...OOPS Edit again 5 hours...but it also has great portablity of only 0.28 POUNDS that is right it is less than an pound!!! EDIT...sorry I'm imformed its 5.28 POUNDS so it is great for you body builders out there who are nearsighted who ever you are well we have a tablet for you!!!!!!

If you're not interested, you don't have to buy it. There are a lot of tech sites posting articles about the Aio now. I've seen quite a few. My News360 app lists over 30. If you do some research you'll notice that they find it has something to offer. And there are a lot of positive comments from readers of those articles.

    Again, Isn't having choices great?

Sorry to make fun at Asus's expense but this is the place to opine, make fun, etc. is it not?
Anyway, this device reminds me of the Simpson's episode when Homer is commisioned to design a car.....
