Asus Officially Announces The Android 7-inch MeMo Pad for $149; US Launch in April
We've been hearing rumors of an inexpensive Asus Android tablet competitor in the market for some time now, and today Asus made it official. Their new affordable Android tab is the 7-Inch MeMo will launch in select markets this month and in the US in April for just $149.99. Here's the specs:
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience
- 1GHz VIA WM8950 CPU (with Mali-400 GPU) (Single Core CPU)
- 7-inch 1024x600 display
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB internal storage
- A microSD slot available for expansion.
- Front-facing 1MP shooter with a back-illuminated sensor
- ASUS' pre-installed apps
- 5GB of free ASUS WebStorage space
We aren't quite sure what to make of this tab. While the price is pretty good, the specs aren't quite as impressive as some of the other tablets in this price range, like the Nabi 2 and others. Also, for just $50 bucks more you can have the Nexus 7 which may be missing the microSD slot, still has better specs, and is also made by Asus. Share your thoughts.
I personally think it is a bit meh for anyone who already has a tablet, but it is great for someone who is thinking of getting a tablet. Much better choice than many of the low priced Chinese tablets.

Probably a decent entry level tablet that would meet the needs of many people at an affordable price.

It's always a balance, isn't it. What is better - microSD or faster processor/better screen?
I wish they had gone with a dual core processor - I think single core will hamper this device - which is a shame.

Yes seeing as its not far behind the nexus 7 in price and probably the same as the Kindle Fire (not HD) its really not worth it, its a nice device for kids, but the kindle would do a better job at the same price

Nothing said about the OS. At that price, they will sell a ton of them.

Oh god, I'm no longer interested, that apps awful, I disabled that app days after getting my infinity, I mean, cmon, its an ASUS app and it wasn't optimized for the full HD screen, and it runs horribly

I would hope the 4th button is wrong in the photo, or simulated. You know how some press shots have the wrong OS shown?
