New Universal Root Method for 'Most' ICS and Jelly Bean Devices

UPDATE: We have received several reports from users who tried this that it does not work. If someone figures out a way to get this to work, please post in the thread. In the mean-time, we will call this one a "dud."

Here's proof positive that the developers in the Android community are the best in the world. One of the devs over at XDA, Bin4ry, just developed a new universal root method that is specifically for Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean devices. Supposedly, his root method should be compatibile with nearly all devices that can run stock versions of these two versions of Android. Here's a quote from his thread, followed by some downloads and instructions,

i made a small script which is able to root ICS/JB phones. It uses a remount timing issue in Androids "adb restore" service.
So normally it should work on nearly all ICS/JB devices, for some it won't but the idea may work in a slightly modded version

There is a special case for Xperia T and Xperia S,P etc. phones, this phones run ICS but don't have android's native restore with adb, Sony has added a own custom "Backup&Restore" app, the script handles this cases too, just choose the correct option!
Make sure you hit up the source link below for more detailed instructions (and for any updates), but here's a quick summary with a download link below,

    Instructions:
    • Download file and extract it from here: Download
    • Double click the RunMe.bat and follow instructions

Let us know what you think in the thread!

It would be greatly appreciated by a lot of us, I am sure, if they would use ZIP instead of the RAR format.

Why? Both are almost "native" to most OSs now...

Just download WinRAR, you never have to pay, its bugged up and after 30 days (or the limit might be 60) it just carries on and it has never been fixed

Hi! I'm new to this forum but am a moderator on two Windows website forums.

Nearly most techno geeks use WinRar. It's more flexible that most other compression / decompression software. Easy to use, but there is a slight learning curve for
    more complicated situations.

7-Zip is a good program and it's free too. Available in both X86 and X64 versions. It will decompress RAR files but not create them.

    From the 7-Zip website:
    License
7-Zip is open source software. Most of the source code is under the GNU LGPL license. The unRAR code is under a mixed license: GNU LGPL + unRAR restrictions.

You can use 7-Zip on any computer, including a computer in a commercial organization. You don't need to register or pay for 7-Zip.
    The main features of 7-Zip

High compression ratio in 7z format with LZMA and LZMA2 compression
    Supported formats:
Packing / unpacking: 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM
Unpacking only: ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DEB, DMG, FAT, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, VHD, WIM, XAR and Z.
For ZIP and GZIP formats, 7-Zip provides a compression ratio that is 2-10 % better than the ratio provided by PKZip and WinZip
