New Asus AiO Tablet/PC Hybrid with Windows 8 and Android Dual-Boot
We aren't exactly sure what to make of this or how to categorize it, because it seems to fit several molds at once, but it was intriguing enough to share. In fact, we could be seeing the first device of the future of personal computing... Apparently Asus is going to showcase a new product at Computex this year that amazingly attempts to "do it all." It's a tablet/PC hybrid, that also happens to dual-boot between Windows 8 and Android. It's called the Asus Transformer AiO. It's an 18.4-inch Android/Windows 8 dual-boot tablet that docks in a base station and morphs into a home PC.
The display itself is an 18.4-inch LED-backlit panel with 10-point multitouch support (although no resolution specs were given). Supposedly the device has a button that switches between Android mode and Windows 8 OS. Obviously a tablet of this size isn't the most portable option. Furthermore, there is some intel that it may actually only have a limited range from the base-station (which seems odd). Still, the concept is pretty noteworthy. What do you guys think?
Update: Here's a video of the Transformer AiO:

Sounds to me that if it only does Windows when it is near the base, it is an Android Tablet that has wireless display technology and a separate windoze box that is on the desk. Folks are gonna want Windoze to go, not just within 30' of their base (or whatever it ends up being).
And, 18" Android Tablet? That seems a bit much to me.

I think you'd need some serious assistance to take that tablet
And with Windows about, you know the device will catch "a cold" or even a more serious "illness" at some point, therefore needing "medication".
Not for me, thank you...

Yeah I'm confused too as 18" is too big for a tablet and too small for a desktop!

solution to a problem that doesn't exist?
I have to say I'm not sure what to make of this either. I'm glad that Asus is willing to push the envelope and try new product ideas, but I sure hope that this is not the only product announcement they make this week.

I like it
I like this - if the price is right I'd buy one. I have a TF101 and so find I never move the lappy (battery is gone now anyway) so the lappy is like a crap desktop. This would be an ideal replacement and I can take it to the bedroom to watch movies better than both the TF101 or the lappy. Plus - imagine lying it on the coffee table for a game of Risk!!!

What about the same type tablet, except the same size as the 101? Wouldn't that be the best of both worlds. Hey, Kodak has been using AiO (All in One) to describe their printers for ever, I'm guessing there won't be a legal issue here?

Too small for desktop?

I like it, too. I don't think the idea is to take the tablet with you outside your home/office. It seems practical, though, to be able to detach the screen to sit on your couch, or to take down the hall to a meeting. I think its a really great, versatile and innovative idea.
