    charging issues

I've been through this once before but it's doing it again, and the previous fix didn't work this time...
Here's the back story. About a year ago, I went to turn on the tablet and... Nothing.
After some research found if I held the power button (ended up taping it down) it would start up, but would not charge.
The battery & charging indicator is missing. The keyboard and bluetooth also are not working.
Last time, I ran it until it was totally dead, as others had, but it still would not charge until it no longer saw a charge in the batteries. After sitting dead for 3-4 days, it finally started charging again, and worked perfectly for the last year.
NOW, it's done the same thing. I drained the power completely, until it would no longer power up at all. The power blinks 12 times (slowly, about 15 seconds or so) while being held, then goes off again. It's been powered off and sitting for almost a week, and still won't charge. In the mean time, my new puppy knocked it off the shelf, and I now have a new screen on order (slow boat from China). I could still use it with an HDMI cable, IF it would charge up!
Since the screen is already off it, any suggestions for things to look at in the mean time? Such as unplugging the batteries (if so, HOW??).
My previous research indicated that the charging circuit has failed. Is there another way to repair this? I have access to soldering equipment and people with general electronics experience. (We're Hams after all! Heck I've built my own radio!)
    thanks for any help here.
    Karen

I would order a new battery along with the screen and replace it. Your battery seems dead to me. What was the last "wear level" it had when it was working, if you paid attention?

thanks, but the battery is charging and holding a charge once again, just fine. it holds a charge for a good 8 hours or more, depending what i'm doing with it. ordered a replacement screen and now just need to find replacement glue strip to hold it in.

Good for you then! The last you wrote that battery won't charge. So the battery problem gone?
