    Exclamation New T102HA power issues

I have had my T102HA for just a couple of weeks. When I first received it, I powered it, loaded software and such, but life got busy and I powered it off. It has been about a month since then and I had some free time, so I thought I'd have a go, but the device wouldn't power on. No problem, I thought, it hasn't been charged for a month, maybe the battery is just dead.

So I plugged it in and tried to power it on, no go. Okay, maybe the battery is totally discharged. I gave it a couple of hours. When I cam back, I noticed I have an orange, slow flashing power indicator light. It still won't power on, but when the power button is pressed for 3 seconds, it flashes orange rapidly 4 or 5 times, then goes back to the slow flash. After reading a bit, I found that I could hold down the power button for 30 seconds and it actually will come on. GREAT -- until you release the power button and it shuts off after 1-2 seconds. Still sounds like extremely low battery to me, but it's on the charger, so that really shouldn't matter.

Now I try an experiment. I hold down the power and unplug it once booted....it stays on...at least until I release the power button. I've also noticed that the battery indicator is missing from the notification area -- tried to re-enable it, but the option is greyed out. Fine, I grab a 3rd party battery manager from the app store, which promptly tells me there is no battery connected. Impressive, considering the power cord isn't connected at this point, yet the device is still fully functional.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions before I contact Asus for an RMA?

His just started working again after what he believes was a complete drain of the battery, which may have reset something.

Yes, this absolutely worked for me. Force the battery to drain to zero then it charges normally. I appreciate the tip!

This is happening to me. How do you force the battery to drain to zero?

Leave it turned on - plug some accessories into USB.

It's not surprising that battery drain works. It's no different than pulling the plug on a desktop PC or dropping the battery on a laptop.

The only downside is, it isn't good for the battery. Most tablet devices should cut the battery out of the system (allowing for a fully cold reboot) if you do a long (60 seconds or more) uninterrupted press on the power button.
