ASUS confirms fix to dock power drain coming!

I thought this news was good enough for a new thread!!!

ASUS has confirmed that a fix for the dock power drain is coming:

ASUS confirms Eee Pad Transformer power fix incoming | Android Community

They do not say if it's a firmware or hardware fix. Hoping for more details soon! I was going to send my dock for RMA today!

To everyone that didn't believe there was an issue with power drain on some docks and thought is was placebo, there you have it... we are not crazy... :-)

They say it's a power management issue.. I would expect this to be a firmware fix.

That's what I would think also but 2 people in the XDA forum have called ASUS support and have been told it's a hardware fix. I will wait to sent the dock however as there often seems to be a disconnect between support and the people that are looking at how to fix the problems... ;-)

If it's a hardware issue... What are they to do... replace all the docks?

If a fix is coming it can't be a hardware issue.

I called Asus UK support after reading the Facebook notice and was told it would be a hardware fix. TBH I'm not convinced, way way too much grief to hvae 100's of docks RMA'ed. I think it will be a firmware fix.
I'm holding off RMA'ing my dock as I don't mind disconecting it over night etc and have heard horror stories about the Asus RMA turn around time.

That is why I elected to go with an Android device. Most issues they can fix with a firmware update.

Had the phone in my hand to RMA and decided to check in here first. I'll hold off on the call until I hear what the fix is.

I was given a RMA by ASUS in Sydney and told to pack up just the keyboard and they would get a courier to pick it up. I was told it needs a part replaced inside. My guess is it is a voltage regulator that stops the dock from charging the tablet when the tablet gets to 100%.

It seems at the moment these docks keep charging the the tablet continously and there for flattening themselves for no good reason.
